Assassins Creed Origins - Pharaohs, Pyramids and Papyrus

Assassins Creed Origins

After taking a year off in their AC release schedule, Ubisoft is releasing their latest entry in the Assassins Creed series. The game is being developed by the team responsible for Black Flag, which was one of the most enjoyable AC game in recent years. Games like Unity and Syndicate never hit those high notes that Black Flag hit.

Information:
Developer(s) :Ubisoft Montreal
Publisher : Ubisoft
US release : 27 October 2017
Genre :Historic Action-Adventure
Platform(s) :PC, PS4, Xbox One

RPG or Action Adventure?
Since the announcement of the new game, Ubisoft has been pushing the RPG angle this game seemingly has. It has quests you can pick up in a non linear fashion, and also uses skillpoints and a leveling system. The combat seems more like a Souls game, incorporating hitboxes as well. We will have to see how it turns out.

I'm pretty hyped for the game. Assassins Creed games havent been able to grab me since Black Flag and before that Brotherhood. I personally think Syndicate was meh and the actual streets and city were just boring as hell.

Very excited to explore their version of Egypt and see shit like the library of Alexandria.

This might be the first one I try after Black Flag... it really looks like an improvement over a lot of the more recent AC releases.

But I've been bitten before, so we'll see.

Nice OT btw!

Black Flag had those as well, and while annoying sometimes it hardly interfered with the gameplay :). I hope it's handled better than in BF though.

@Mochilador it was in all the previews I think, they havent shown it off though. Also I was kind of expecting there to be a modern part in most AC games right? Almost all of them?

Haven't played the Paris one and never finished Syndicate, but in the latter there were only cutscenes for the modern part, no actual gameplay or anything.

I have played but ended up hating every AC since 3.

I really hope Origins turns things around for me but I am so burned out on open world shit lately, especially as a trophy slut, just too many damn collectibles in these open worlds. Fellow sonybro's go nuts for Horizon but I ended up feeling it was just another openworld checklist after about 15 hours.  :-\

Oh well I've got the deluxe edition pre-ordered so I'm in regardless. I think Origins is going to pay-off for Ubisoft critically and commercially so I'm interested if they'll be hesitant about making it a yearly series again.

How did it take 10 years to get a game set in Egypt?  Should have been done at least at the point the fucking American Revolution became a setting. If you can't dive off of pyramids, they fucked up tho.

Mhm, dunno about diving from Pyramids but you can slide down them!

Hope this is good.  Played the last one with another person and by the end of it we were a bit burned out to the point where the WWI bit felt like a chore.

Haven't watched any streams or anything. I actually forgot this was coming out until Monday. :x

Does anyone like the modern segments. I can't believe they don't have like a bunch of data saying just drop it already. If they reboot then just do away with them. They make no sense in a video game either not like they need to save budget for all those set pieces or something and who wants to do those slow awkward dumb puzzles. At the very least just have them be cinematics in engine doesn't matter. I do like the heatseeking arrows though.

I'll probably wait til it drops to $20. Hoping for good reviews.

The setting and time period are super appealing to me but there are a billion games on my backlog right now and 2 new ones coming out on the same day.
I just wanted a bad ass ancient egypt game. Why did it have to be Assassin's Creed? :fbm
Yeah, that what sucks about these AC games. The settings are cool but AC-ness weighs them down.

Black Flag would have been 5x better if it had just been a pirate game without the Assassin/Templar bullshit and crappy AC combat.

Wait, is this a reboot now?

Sort of.

I'm trying to stay spoilerish free but I did peak a couple reviews and a few pointed out that nearly all previous lore has been tossed out the window regarding the Assassin's. Probably a good bit of Templar lore tossed out as well since the Creative Director was quoted as saying that the new enemy faction is basically a precursor to the Templar order.

That said, knowing the deeper lore regarding Assassin's and the Templars requires paying attention to the puzzles and modern stuff which started with AC2. So if the general consensus is that most people hate that shit, than how many AC fans actually care enough about the "lore" to notice the changes presented in AC:O? Time will tell.

I used to care a lot about the modern day story because it was slowly building up to a present day Assassin's Creed game and it would have been really cool to do all that stuff there.

Then Assassin's Creed 3 took a massive steaming shit on the entire franchise and nothing has been the same since. Frankly, I preffered the "Ubisoft are evil templars making video games" meta narrative from Black Flag and Rogue than... whatever it is Unity and Syndicate had.

Black flag was the best and wasn't that 4.

I will say this. The game is beautiful and very impressive graphically. Actually think the combat looks better but hard to know not playing.

And preloading.  Didn't realize there's another 6 hours until unlock.  Tomorrow it is then.

Played for about 30 minutes.  Synchronized 2 vantage points.

My initial impressions are:
-Solid gameplay
-No clear compelling story yet
-Mesh textures and graphic effects make me feel like this is an Xbox One target game (I'm on a 1080 Ti)
-No in game way to set 4K downsampled, need to look into that
-Very consolely, autoassist.  Keeps telling me to do shit I don't want to yet, no manual save (which gives me paranoia)

Shows promise, but probably needs mods for non-mouth breathing folks

Geforce Experience can force 4K DSR.  Once I get a break from work I'll try it out and look into not having a single save that can corrupt and ruin everything.

There's no Durante here, so I'll have to do.   :idont

Well having completed the prologue, let me also share some initial impressions.

- The Map is huge. Seriously, as soon as you can open the map and zoom all the way out to stare in amazement.
- Combat is much improved, takes some serious getting used to though. I keep hitting buttons for the old combat lol.
- Storytelling has taken a back seat. Cutscenes are abrupt and chaotic, very little hand-holding, almost feels rushed.
- Wouldn't be a Ubisoft game without some bugs. I've already had multiple side quests glitch. Nothing serious, each quest could be fixed by reloading from main menu.
- Some of the animations are ME:Andromeda level. It's very weird.
- Absolutely stunning to look at on PS4 Pro. I can only imagine the One X and PC High-Ultra would be even better.
- Characters have accents which match the area now sort of. Unlike say Unity where the game took place in France yet everyone had English/American accents.
- The modern stuff is going to get shit on so hardcore I think.
- Most importantly, there is no collectible overload. All Side-content seems to have a purpose. (EXP, Unique Gear)

Agreed with your points so far. Draw distance after the prologue is impressive. 4K downsampledimproved the IQ quite a bit. Need to remember to turn off AA as it's FXAA and at 4K kills IQ.

This tourism mode is called "Discovery Tour" and won't available until "Early 2018."

HDR should be coming in early November, and that is going to look crazy for people with TV's that support it. So far my favorite HDR implementation was Horizon because it completely elimnated color banding in water and sky among other things, FFXV's HDR was okay at best tbh, so let's hope AC:O nails it.

All the upgrades get ridiculous really quick becuase they want you to buy Helix credits and then buy the shortcut packs. >_<

No lootboxes to complain about in AC:O because instead they went straight for the Microtransaction jugular. Pay up, or spend hours grinding away!

As a person who values time>money they did this to hurt me lol. I just know I'm going to crack the closer I get to finishing the game.

If you level up enough and take a perk you can lol.

But in-game money is sparse according to reviewers and my own experience so far. It costs a shit ton just to keep your gear leveled with you.

Cats are my weakness. Too cute.

Which btw, so far I have not been able to pet any cats in AC:O!? I've seen them, I've had them rub up against bayek's legs and watch them do ambient things even. But petting? How do? I forget if it was something they had to repatch in or not, because they did say they removed it after gamescom or something like that but lately reversed that decision and they were gonna bring it back.

Maybe. You'd have to do quests in order to get leveled up for abilities and hp increases. You'd get half of the breastplate leveled by random skins you picked up

I appreciate that the series goes for settings that are not often seen in this medium, but I can't bring myself to deal with AC's shallow gameplay and dumb-ass story.

How did within one decade no other publisher decide to cash in on historical settings also? Everyone just sees that CoD money or what...

Game is growing on me. I skip all of the sidequest dialog because it's nonsense.  Gameplay is a mixture of Assassin's Creed and other modern games. Simple Cheat Engine search replace works for money btw. Need to slay those red phar* bitches wandering around the map. Total cunts.
