Taco Bell > Chipotle as others have stated. We have a local joint that offers more authentic Mexican food in the same vein as Chipotle, though, and it's incredible.

There was a Chipotle built across the street from a Taco Bell and I've only been two times because of that. If I'm going to overpay for something beyond Taco Bell/fast-food-cheap level, I'd rather do Five Guys or a local burger place of that effect in that they give me WAY more options and aren't gonna over charge me for what I get. I can pay ~$15 at Five Guys and get a burger with everything on it, fries (wayyyy too many), and a drink for that a bit more than Chipotle's burrito and drink.

It goes without saying that local is the best.  Chipotle is fast food.  I used to go there a lot but in the last year or so the quality has just gone downhill.  Been going to Moe's a lot more.  But there's a Mexican restaurant like one minute down the street that is amazing, so we go there far more.


Dunno if this still works, but at Chipotle, when you get your meat, ask for half one and half the other and you should get more.  You can also go for a double serving, and if they're busy enough the cashier won't notice and won't charge you for it.

I'm not West Coast (or Texas), so no In N Out. Five Guys is the East Coast (near national now?) version of that. The local place near me I prefer over Five Guys as they have better buns. They cost roughly the same, so if I'm in town and near the local place, I'll generally go there over the Five Guys unless I'm feeling Wendy/BK/Taco Bell/Subway-cheap.

IMO, Moe's is on Five Guys level of "boutique" fast-food. And I prefer Moe's stuff over Chipotle as they have far more options. If you're going to do the "Subway" method of making me state what I want on it, give me options. The Chiptole(s) I've been too have been too damn limited. WTF?

Qdoba is a pretty happy middle ground of Queso and decent ingredients, but their meat isn’t Chipotle. Very hit or miss. Mostly they cook everything past well done and let it sit too long. Quality used to be better 4-5 years ago.
