Andy-kun: Android gaming/emulation and controllers?
« on: October 28, 2017, 09:30:21 PM »
So, not sure if it's possible but:

I'm trying to get my Dual-Shock 4 to no-input-lag and wirelessly work with my MotoG4. The pairing and stuff works fine, but it seems the be finicky on actually picking up inputs. Doing 236 or 214's is impossible to smoothly do and register.

I'm trying to get it to work with PPSSPP and using Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 3 MAX/UPPER to test it on.

Have you used a controller on your android device(s)? What is the best method to do for emulation purposes?

Emulators :kobeyuck

Yeah I don't really play emus or use controllers with my phone. I mostly just play touch-optimized fare.

Also I'm not sure if the G4 is powerful enough for a no-lag experience.

Emulation seems fine. The problem is the Blutooth connection, it seems? Apparently it's common on all phones.

Screen mirroring is gonna be pretty poor for most action games I think. RPGs and such might be fine.

Well, OTG cables fixed it. But the keybinds are all wrong. Thankfully, emulators (at least the ones I'm using) can redo the binds. :-* But it's weird that L2/R2 are L1/R1 according to the button config. :doge :doge :doge :doge

If you want a good wireless controller that works with...well...just about everything (even the Switch!), get an 8bitdo controller.

OTG cable works just fine for me. It's weird that the DS4 is wirelessly supported by Google and Sony both haven't done really anything for it so it has weird mapping (plus input lag). Otherwise it's solid, control bindings aside playing the PSP with it suits me fine compared to buying an 8bitdo that is like SNES-style.

Yeah, why use a controller that actually works well when you can have controller binding issues and input lag!?

...

:huh

Anyway, I don't use my phone or tablet much for gaming, not even emulation.  No need with the GPD WIN.

Binding issues and input lag were solved by the OTG cable.

Or I could just root the phone if I want to use it wirelessly, but screw that when a $6 cable will solve the issue. :doge

Why pay for a another controller when the controller I have (issues aside wirelessly) can work with a cable? :huh

As for the GPD win: I'd probably buy one if the heating issues were solved along with the resolution.

Because you can use the 8Bitdo on fucking everything and use it wirelessly without any problems.  You can also get a little cheap plastic piece to hook your phone onto the controller and basically have a little mini handheld to play on with it.

There's also the GPD XD, which is the Android-based version of the handheld that works pretty much perfectly for emulation.  Better than the Win in that regard.  Never had any heating issues myself, but that's also because I left the bios settings alone and didn't fuck around with everything like others did.  The GPD WIN 2 is coming BTW.

*shrug* I don't need it to be wireless since the phone will be no more than like a foot away from me. 8bitdo is a waste of cash when I can unplug the USB cord from my PC and put it on the phone and use the DS4 there.

OK, bruh.  Whatever works for you.  I know I liked having a wireless controller with no input lag and a free port to charge the phone while playing emulators that zapped the battery, but hey, that's just me.

Alternatively: don't play non-touch optimized games on a device that lacks buttons. :idont

I mean if it's gonna zap the battery it's gonna zap the battery. Emulation or the controller or both. It really doesn't matter. :idont

At the end of the day a cable was the solution. If Sony or Google improved the controller drivers or wireless shit for it? Sure. But I don't need to root around for another $30-50 controller when a $6 cable works just fine. :yeshrug

Emulation on touch wouldn't be a problem if the screen wasn't blocked. Which sounds dumb when I word it like that, but you know what I mean. If Sony came out with a PSP-esque Xperia Play-2, I'd be there.
