Mr Wizard swapped to XenForo, killed all the old links (especially bad on a site where long threads were made and constantly referenced for character talk/combo/matchup/etc stuff), then the forums took a nosedive and lost 99% of all traffic and are now essentially dead. He didn't learn his lesson and switched forum software again at one point as well.

I used to visit SRK a lot. It was rather rough in terms of it being an old school internet hangout filled with lockerroom shittalk, common for heavily male online communities.  I'm sure as EVO got bigger and more corporate sponsors, Mr. Wizard decided to start clean than moderate thousands of old posts.

Yeah old links being broken.. he's completely fucked IMO.  Google is going to trash his ranking; and honestly, don't think it's even going to be possible for him to fix it.  He moved from Vbulletin to Xenforo and the way they handle URLs is pretty damn different.  For one, the forum a thread was created in doesn't show up in the URL in Xenforo.

It's probably technically possible to preserve old links if you have a robust htaccess or some kind of Xenforo plugin. For instance, when I moved from self-hosted Wordpress to Medium, Medium imported my blog and preserved all my old URLs (as redirects) despite the structure being completely different between the two. I believe vBulletin -> phpBB also can preserve URLs if you do it right.

But of course, you have to do it right.
