Once again I note, it's something they could have prevented by having a posters confirmed gender and race shown on every post as suggested in the early days.
Not far enough, tbh. We'd also need total money (in USD, obviously) used to purchase Nintendo products in current fiscal year and total hours volunteered for the democratic party. It would help weed out those agitators arguing in bad faith in gaming and political threads.

total hours volunteered for the democratic party.
This wouldn't work. People who worked for Bernie Sanders or Chelsea Manning's primary campaigns would technically be working for the Democratic Party, as would their financial donations to these campaigns be marked as Democratic. Yet these actions actually further the agenda of neo-Nazi's and gamergate killing minorities.

I think that ResetERA may need to consider starting its own PAC so that users won't be misled into accidentally supporting candidates who actually will enact an agenda from the wrong side of history or even worse a progressive agenda but in bad faith.

I suppose mansplaining is supposed to be when you assume a woman is stupid or ignorant because she's a woman.

But what if you can just tell when someone is a distinguished mentally-challenged cunt, whatever their gender, and needs things explained to them because they are demonstrably stupid or ignorant?

Well, I suppose if said distinguished mentally-challenged cunt is a woman, they can certainly confirm it at that point by calling being corrected for their stupidity "mansplaining."

Anyone using manspailing non ironically can just leave my social circle. Not that the concept is not real but it's used mainly by the same people who like to talk about science despite not having any actual knowledge of any field or theory.

Well, there's "social studies" but that crap is miles below psychology.

“I’ve had a lot of time to think (about) what led me down this road,” Christopher Goldberg told a judge moments before being sentenced Thursday to one to two years in state prison for child pornography possession.

“I hope to take this experience and become a better member of society"

Even his fucking court statements sound like a GAF post.

White privilege also exists but is probably a horrific argument to make because people only ever get defensive and you have to argue what privilege is rather than the issue at hand, which is white supremacy. Privilege should be retired in general population nomenclature.

Well, not to say there aren't advantages to being white in a white majority society, I'm sure there are (I don't consider myself white btw) but the very concept of White privilege isn't a particularly scientific one. It's kind of nebulous in many ways with no objective standard of measuring it.

The problem with these types of amorphous epithets is you end up speaking about white people (or any group really) as if they are all just one homogenous block, as if character is determined by skin colour or that 'class' isn't even worth speaking about. So something mentioned earlier was that 'white people' all have a level of racial animus. Now it may not have been entirely meant in the way it sounds. The problem is the language kind of mirrors the old racial determinism Black people have faced throughout history. If white people are all just a little bit racist, presumably this would include the white people that marched with Martin Luther King? In a way I find that type of language almost shits on the people who have fought for equality along side black people. It is needlessly divisive as are all wild generalisations like this. It also pathologises white people in a sense. Like there is somethign about being white that doesn't affect the rest of humanity. This is why I pointed out that in India, black people are facing racism daily. It is not something unique to white people or Western civilisation. The language and rhetoric makes it seem like it is at times.

I buy into the notion of universalism. I feel that appealing to 'common interests' and 'common goals' and looking at the similarities between groups of people has a far better chance of moving things forward than this divisive rhetoric that seems focus on the differences. This also relates to 'intersectionality' and 'identity politics'. As Brendan O'neill mentioned recently, identity politics rehabilitates the racial imaginiation in an ugly way, where as the old anti-racist activism was all about destroying the racial imagination. It runs entirely counter to those ideals.

Not one shocking response to be found.

I am 35, I do not see this changing at this point. This weekend, I played Mario Odyssey from Saturday thru Monday. It was nice and chill. With a child, I would imagine I would have to feed them, take them to some sort of activity, etc.

Although I think white privilege exists I don't see the relevance as poor whites lack power like black people. This makes them viable allies and there's no coincidence that the American power structures try to keep us separate and divided. And I quote Fred Hampton,"White Power to white people, Brown Power to brown people, Yellow Power to yellow people, Black Power to Black people." After 2016 election, people on the left see the people who voted for Trump as scum and nazi's. I see those poor, working class whites as potential allies. They're clearly willing to do anything, even rationalize and vote for that snake. This makes them potential friends in the struggle because whatever "privilege" they have isn't much when you're that damn desperate.

I don’t find anything wrong with that. If anything it’s challenging people to put their effort into more than typing out responses over the internet and waiting for a wrong thinker to come by to pounce on for the next 2 hours to get that endorphin rush....which I think the thread kinda shows, is what most people are honestly interested in. Real advocacy and change takes commitment and work, not just signing a change.org petition and trying to cleanse your message board of undesirables.

I agree with this but if the bolded really applied to the usual Resetera resist crowd(and other similar people who simply sit at the internet and complain about stuff) then chances are they would just work for their own individual needs, see that you have quite a lot of control over how you live your life and simply stop being angry at the world.

Hello everyone, i'm having a bit financial trouble about so i decided open this thread. I'm living in a 3rd world country so prices of Nintendo Switch is off the roofs like 550$ (convert price). I decided i will import from amazon USA instead which is more reasonable price.

I'm looking for advices about how to get 300$ as an student. It would be nicer if it were online jobs considering i dont locate in USA. I'm undergraduate Computer Engineering student(3rd grade) and know programming(C,C++,Java,Android(java),C#(a bit). Used Unity for few months as well). I looked for reddit for advices and such but most of them are for web developers and seems like nobody wants to give jobs in actual programming departments to undergraduate people or so.

So does anyone have advices? Does joining focus groups actually gives money? I thought about cryptocurrency as well but i have no idea where to start and seems like huge waste of time and money to be honest. But i'm open to all ideas .

Cheers !

Which leads to the biggest problem, because Weinstein and Spacey were first they not only set the bar of severity of abuse but also set the bar for punishment. So, we end up with a lot of discussion of well should people who didn't do what they did suffer the same consequences they did? Is that fair? Problem is, no it's not fair, it's not fair for the victims of Weinstein and Spacey, because they should be suffering much more severe consequences, serious jail time. In a just world, Spacey and Weinstein don't just lose their careers, they lose their freedom, even some of their fortune in civil court. So even though the end punishment for Weinstein and Spacey was to lose their careers, the lost of career is not the ultimate consequences, the most severe, actions like theirs should have, it's just the only one available for these specific crimes. As such, when folks look at people accused of lesser abuses and think why should those abusers suffer the identical consequences as Weinstein and Spacey they do so only looking at the consequences Weinstein and Spacey got and not the consequences Weinstein and Spacey;s actions should have had. So the answer to should a lesser abuser get the same punishment as Weinstein and Spacey? In many cases absolutely (I am not making the argument that Aziz is one of those cases) because loss of career is not the actual high bar of punishment, there is so much above it.

So, she answers the question about whether people who have done much less than Weinstein and Spacey should suffer the same consequences as them. She argues that actually Weinstein and Spacey got off lightly and should have had more severe consequences. She then goes on to say it is fair for people who have done much less to suffer the same consequences because it is not the high bar of punishment.

The problem isn't simply that they have done lesser 'crimes' it is also that by a mere accusation people are having their lives, careers and reputation completely destroyed. Due process is simply being thrown out of the window. And she acts as if the consequences aren't big because they never went to jail over it.

I must the only one who finds Call of Duty shooters boring., if you played one, you played them all. Running around in endless circles is so boring. I much prefer Battlefield open terrain warfare. Sorry, this probably off topic, just puzzled this game is so popular.

The problem isn't simply that they have done lesser 'crimes' it is also that by a mere accusation people are having their lives, careers and reputation completely destroyed. Due process is simply being thrown out of the window. And she acts as if the consequences aren't big because they never went to jail over it.
It's the paradox that the "court of public opinion" doesn't have to follow concepts like innocent until proven guilty because it has no power, while they at the same time ascribe a ton of importance to public opinion and are well aware that it can destroy careers.

No shit. Just 8k posts in that time frame is a obvious red flag. The content is just a cherry on the cake.

Court of public opinion is mob justice and also cuts both ways. The Black Panther Party and Malcolm X are now considered largely to be merely and solely defined as upholders of black nationalist movements whose only aim was violence and savagery. That is public opinion. White people do not hold the same love for Malcolm the way black people do, nor does the world at large in spite of everything he and his people did to help the movement. That's the court of public opinion and it can be brutal. I don't think they've realized that this so-called "court" can be used against them and their values can be tried without due process. This speaks nothing of the pure arrogance of assuming that you're always in the right and could never have any of your views be held against you in the first place.

This thread didn't take off but I'm gonna keep bumping it for awhile because PEOPLE NEED TO GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND MAKE SOME CALLS
Quote
Have y'all gotten off your asses and called this week about the tax plan? Cuz y'all should, it's not too late. www.5calls.org is a great resource. There's way too much riding on this bill to take it sitting down.

I should update this thread more often but there doesn't seem to be much interest on Era, tbh. That's really unfortunate, but there's no better time than the present to start getting involved!. The call to action has been updated, defend DACA! Call your reps! Donate if you can!

DISCLAMER: I felt the need to label this as the "Liberal" political activism OT so as not to shun or inadvertently speak for the conservative posters on ERA. Feel free to make another thread highlighting conservative leaning resources if you desire but they will not be listed here

Gee, I wonder why it didn't take off. :doge

I once almost bought a Lenin shirt from a local store that was selling it for $19 but my Ukranian friend's attitude toward Russia warned me that I should not employ such icons even if it was ironically.

I wonder how many grown Nintendo fans will pay $70 for cardboard. Probably a decent amount.

I don't get how he can be so pissed about it "not being for me REEEEEEEEEEEE" when adults can use it. It's basically ape-ing LittleBigPlanet (DonkeyShow or whatever his name is now on GAF got a game-development job through that), Minecraft, et. al. "do it yourself" style-games. But adding a Maker-space sort of twist (building stuff with the cardboard) to it. Adults use "Minecraft Pi Edition" on a Raspberry Pi to learn to program (or teach kids so they use it to make a lesson plan), I don't see why he's so pissed about this and I say that a total Nintendo non-fan.

Edit: The price is fucking insanity though. For nearly that much you can just get a Pi Robotic Kit that is complete (HDMI cables, wireless keyboard mouse and a Pi that is "kiddie-fied" for kids to learn) for doing nearly the same thing without the "games" focus. If they did the "Google Cardboard VR" route where you can print out a template and then sketch the cardboard stuff, I could see it being a huger-hit. But who knows, I see the market for this completely and think it could be a success.

That Jezebel thread is absolutely cringeworthy. It sounds like half of them never been on a date before or had intimate interactions with the opposite sex.
