Yeah, it's shit like you don't have to hunt your  mark. In old MH, you didn't get a fucking lazy ass thing that automatically told you where the monster was. You had to actually "hunt" it by finding its location by yourself and then you had to mark it with paint so it'd show up on your map. MHW not only gives you hints on where the monster is, it gives you a literal trail via the bugs and auto maps the monster on the map for you without effort.

If dumbing down means "appeal to western audiences" then lol. Because what I played of MHW beta, besides all of that, was identifably MH. So I'm not getting what your point is.

The new system feels much more like hunting and isn't all that different from following paintball symbols on your map. Finding clues in the final game often takes much longer than in the demo.

I am. It's like any other genre that isn't straight up a multiplayer FPS or open world. Big names sell but otherwise it doesn't break sales records. Mass Effect 3 is the best selling ME game and it did about 6 million. Pretty good high number but not on the level of COD and especially not on the level of the GTA's. The Witcher 3 did 20 million which is pretty amazing but that's The Witcher 3. So no, WRPG's are not the king.

I'm fine if people are new to the weeb games. But from what I remember, Japanese games are supposed to be shit apparently. Then you've got games like Monster Hunter World selling so well. Shit is comical. I like seeing the shift where people are more open to Japanese games. But I remember the game press giving Japanese games bad scores purely because they were Japanese (God Hand) and shit for years. I'm hardly the first person to notice. People wrote about the shit in Forbes!

The original, when it released on ps2, no one gave a shit about P4. It eventually grew a base because of Giant Bomb and Golden, but at release?

It had a fanbase. In fact that fanbase is partly why Giant Bomb did their Endurance Run. They pestered Jeff and Crew to do the Endurance Run on Persona 4 when they were considering a "long-play" game. That long-play then blew the series up.

It was like:

Persona 3 /v/ shilling for FES -> Persona 4 PS2 launch -> Giant Bomb is made over Jeff's gamespot firing->Long-play-plans->Fans pestered them to do Persona 4 (despite "Anime is for Nerds.")->Fanbase hits "normie" status->Persona 5 launches(breaking sales records for the series IIRC)->/v/ now hates SMT/Persona because "normies" play it.
