Also, it's not like most of the posters on ERA are magnetic people. They can't take a joke. They're awfully wound up. They're hostile to any major disagreement. I'm not really seeing the "community", just like OldGAF.
I had great fun posting on GamingAge/NeoGAF from when I signed up (must've been 2004/2005 or so) because it was more like this place than GameFaqs and ResetEra.
However at some point a part of the community got stuck up on the idea that what they said on a message board mattered and more and more media started using NeoGAF as their sole source of information.
At the same time the mods (mostly Amir0x and Bishoptl) hammered away at popular members until I along with most of the old guard were banned late 2010 or 2011 I think. Especially after we started baiting the blogs who were monitoring GAF for news 24/7.

The juniors we made fun of were left to to their own devices, evolving into the crackpots we see today, their blogs turned into YouTube channels.
I returned to The Bore after having been exclusively on Twitter first. I had scooped around opa ages but never signed up, then just before NeoGAF imploded I discovered that all the cool people had moved here by coincidence.
Next up, I joined ResetEra because it was hyped up to be the new 'NeoGAF' which I remembered as a fun place to post. I was hoping that they would purge their ranks of the lunatics and return to being a fun forum again.
At first they pretended this was the case. I got away with quite a bit of shitposting I must say. I was testing the boundaries and felt comfortable doing so. But soon the REEEEE community asked the mods to take action against posters such as myself who were not true believers of Karl Marx and/or wouldn't fuck transgenders or were jokers in general. It was also never fun to post there. Whenever I posted something I got dog piled.
Me: "Yeah, Mario Oddessey is pretty fun it has like 1000 moons, maybe we will get some DLC soon like Mario Odyssey: The Lost Worlds or something with Luigi even though I still have 700 more to find"
