finale fireworker still the GOAT self parody
Tarantino being a questionable creep aside, I always hated how the marketing for Django made the movie look like a rollicking good time full of bloody fun. Instead it was a gruesome and torturous movie that seemed to want you to feel really terrible the whole time. I never felt like the relief of vengeance was satisfying. After watching such a stressful movie, there wasn’t any real justice. Just a reminder of how terrible slavery was. Hardly a smashing good time.
I think where the OP fails is in how it neglects the most important aspects of successful superhero movies, and that’s a sense of hope. Django offers no hope.
I think a lengthier piece that examines why Django fails in light of Black Panther would be something cool to read.
What fucking idiot who actually writes would even compare the two? There is some fucker on neo-neogaf (ERA) who keeps saying that Django is about self-abolition and how it fails at that. It's not about that! It's like saying Die Hard is about pro-skyscraper sentiment because John McClane doesn't want the building to blow up.
It's about a friendship created and Django becoming a Legend of the Old West but set in the South. I'll accept other interpretations but the tactic to accuse it of being X and then saying it fails as X is ass. "This blueberry pie is crap at being a pizza. As a pizza it sucks."
The entire "QT is a racist" seems like a "full ResetERA" thing because you never see it anywhere else. Search "quentin tarantino + black controversy," and you just get black people calling it stupid.
That's what going full ResetERA is. Proclaiming your white-ass self smarter than all the black people saying "nah, It's cool, we don't see it that way."
