Star Ocean 5 was so bad that it actually made me nostalgic for Star Ocean 4, how sad is that? Anyway, I bought it because it was pretty cheap and I had some money in my Steam wallet.

Star Ocean 4 was so bad it actually makes me want to play Star Ocean 5 despite hearing how bad it is.

Star Ocean is such a waste of a franchise. Should have been the jrpg equivalent of Mass Effect. I'll also never get how SO is so bad considering that almost everything else Tri-ace does is pretty good. Is it Enix forcing them to pander? idk. SO2 was the only good one, SO3 combat was sorta competent but story was shit.

Did you ever play the PSP version of Star Ocean 1? That was pretty good.

And the thing about Star Ocean 5 is that at least Star Ocean 4 had content, SO5 just feels totally barren and cheap.

Yeah, I played SO1 on PSP, can't remember anything about it so it was not that memorable.

See, if the only thing "bad" about SO5 is that it's 15 hours long and has no content than that's already leagues above SO3/SO4 to me. SO3/4 has so much  story/character SHOWER SCENE/LOLIS/etc... gross ass shit + dumb storytelling it's IQ destroying.

The only thing good about SO2 even is that it has Ashton, a guy possessed by dragons who has a fetish with barrels. Although after typing that sentence, I know see the series has been creepy trash from the start. I'd be fine throwing the whole series in a dumpster fire.

Give me another Radiata Stories or Valkyrie Profile or Resonance of Fate plz

I actually really liked 4, but the biggest issues were with the IQ in battles and the disk swapping/crashes on 360. I didn't mind Lymle even, thought the hate she got was a bit too much. Wish we got a physical release of the remaster.

Star ocean is a shit series and the fact they made another stink ocean and not a sequel to Valkyrie profile 2 is pure injustice.

SO1 & 2 are fine rpgs for their time (and gameplay-wise 3 is fine but broken, 4 is eh, ok I guess, but the site system gets old). But SO1/2 are long, long ago, and the series has sucked ever since.

The thing is it's not like Tri-ace has terrible writers and can't write a good story/characters. Valkyrie Profile is great, Resonance of Fate is silly fun, even the recent Exist Archives has a good cast and decent plot. It's just the Star Ocean games continually have absolutely terrible writing and characters. It's like they make the SO franchise to troll gamers. I mean hell in SO3

Maybe that's it and SO games are troll games, idk. I bought SO5 on release but still haven't played it because I just don't care about SO when there's better rpgs to play.

Star Ocean 5 is a 15 hour rpg which is something I actually want because I often feel jrpgs are too long and I'd rather they be shorter. So you can have more of the good stuff without the tedious boring stuff.

I could not finish Star Ocean 5.
