I bet the prices are going to be absolutely insane.

The first BFGDs, coming later this year from ACER, ASUS and HP, are 65 inches, run at 4K at 120Hz, have G-SYNC technology, HDR with 1000 nit peak brightness, and an integrated NVIDIA SHIELD, giving you instant access to Netflix, Amazon Video and YouTube at 4K, NVIDIA GameStream, Android games and apps, and much more.

To achieve this we’ve been working for over two years with leading panel producer AU Optronics to create and perfect 4K and 3440x1440 G-SYNC HDR displays with lightning-fast response times, PC-optimized HDR with 1000 nit peak brightness, full array backlights, Quantum Dot Enhancement Films, and DCI-P3 cinema-quality color gamuts (learn more about NVIDIA G-SYNC HDR here). And now, for BFGDs, we’ve created a 65” 4K 120Hz G-SYNC HDR panel with all of those features, and a full array direct backlight for the absolute best big-screen PC gaming experience.

16:9 isn't going to be "dead" until laptops all offer ultra-wide.  Plus most "gaming" monitors and monitors in general are 16:9.  Plus with a monitor that huge, you could just set a custom ultra-wide resolution and it would still be bigger than most 21:9 monitors.

But yeah, I enjoy the extra space on my ultra-wide monitor.

Even a bog standard 60hz 4K non-hdr monitors seems dumb expensive compared to a TV.

I never quite understood that.  These things are probably going to be like $3k+

Until GPU cards that run 4k/60 without being a space heater are less then $300, who cares? Especially when you can get 50 inch 4k displays with HDR for less than $400.

i think it's because monitors have ultra low response times compared to TV's and the panels are higher quality?

I think that sort of makes sense, but I still get hung up that I can get a 28” 4K 60hz non-hdr TN monitor for about $300 and $330 will get me a 40” 4K 60hz hdr VA panel with a built in roku, speakers, and a tv tuner.

I’m sure there are good reasons, but the delta doesn’t make sense to me. The response rates are better on tan than VA, but VA typically has better angles and colors... so, shrug?

That said, at the higher end of monitors(gsync, 144hz,etc), i have little doubt that those margins are insane and we are paying a high amount of markup over COGS.

gsync is such a cunt tbh. i'd be more than happy with freesync if it worked with nvidia cards (which i need cause all my work stuff uses CUDA).

as is, if i want refresh sync i'm forced to endure a good and proper gouging.
