Google Sue-Ball 2018 Edition (Damore Redux)
« on: January 09, 2018, 04:17:32 AM »

So as of yesterday, news broke that Damore is suing Google for discrimination against "White Conservative Males".

At first, I was fairly sceptical about all of this. Sure, he doesn't seem to have been treated particularly politely, but last time I checked, diversity laws don't explicitly protect hurt fee-fees and I felt that there would absolutely be an element of a butthurt Damore blowing things out of proportion to snag himself some sweet sweet Google cash.

However, I took the time to read the lawsuit document last night ( full version -> https://www.scribd.com/document/368689407/Damore-vs-Google-Class-Action-Lawsuit#fullscreen&from_embed ) and [I Am Not A Lawyer Yadda Yadda Yadda] if it's truthful, then some of the things going on at Google are pretty fucking shady.

It's a fairly long document, but several times throughout, there appear to have been actual instances of discrimination against people who do not act "Googley" which is a fun and quirky way of saying Extreme Social Justice Echo Chamber. At one point in the document, Damore posted screencaps of hate mail sent to him by one of his enlightened co-workers who admitted that they would not stop harassing him until he got fired. Damore passed this onto HR who acknowledged it but did nothing.

Somebody with significantly less privilege than Damore posted a decent recap of some key points on Twitter. You can view the thread at https://twitter.com/mjaeckel/status/950446329603461121

Seriously, though, at this point, a career at Google looks like ResetERA The Job.

The damaging thing may be all the testimony of reports to HR that lead to nothing or HR saying the statement did not violate google policy.

Other highlights are the apparently large amount of furries at google and the post where employees were recruiting for AnitFa.

I haven't gotten through all of it, but I thought it was Damore just not moving on from the issue. I didn't see the point of the lawsuit. However, there seems to be quite a bit of evidence(?) that they're ready to unload. If this actually goes Damore's way then it could poison the Diversity based HR and the faulty tools they use. Apparently, the diversity training  sector is an 8 billion dollar racket.

Whilst not related to the case, I did appreciate the revelation that an employee of Google sexually identifies as “a yellow-scaled wingless dragonkin”. I guarantee they have a fucking ResetERA account.

Quote
On August 3, 2017 George Sadlier (“Sadlier”), a Director at Google, sent out a mass email condemning James’ essay as “repulsive and intellectually dishonest” and promising an HR investigation into Damore. Sadlier also promoted posts that advocated for physical violence against Damore. Subsequently, On Friday, August 4, 2017, Damore received a late-night email from Alex Hidalgo, a Site Reliability Engineer at Google in Sadlier’s organization, which stated, “You’re a misogynist and a terrible person. I will keep hounding you until one of us is fired. Fuck you.”

Quote
Damore forwarded Hidalgo’s email to Google HR, and was told to work from home for some time until emotions cooled down. Similar threats followed from other coworkers. Google executives and employees condemned Damore, his memo, and his views. Some coworkers demanded Damore’s termination, and the termination of other individuals who shared his views

Quote
Not only did Google terminate Damore for his political views relating to workplace issues, but they then rewarded individuals who disagreed with and disparaged Damore. 75.

The Google Recognition Team allowed employees to give fellow employees “Peer Bonuses” for arguing against Damore’s political viewpoints. Peer Bonuses were typically reserved for outstanding work performance or for going above and beyond an employee’s job duties. Defending the liberal agenda, or defending violations of California employment law, is not in any Google employee’s  job description

Quote
In one example of this, an employee gave a Peer Bonus to another employee, and stated that the bonus was for “speaking up for googley values and promoting [diversity and inclusion] in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is [Damore’s Memo].” The Google Recognition Team reviewed this justification, considered it appropriate, and allowed the bonus to proceed

Why do they all talk alike? This is like a nutty gaf post.

The ability of employees to grant other employees "Peer Bonuses" with little to no oversight doesn't seem like a company policy that would last very long.

Side note: I will consider anyone who likes this post for a Peer Bonus.

casting aside any of the legal/ethical/etc. questions about Damore or the other employees actions, it's pretty amazing that any HR department in this day and age would think an employee (plus maybe more) threatening another using INTERNAL COMMUNICATION was best handled by advising the threatened employee to work from home for a couple days :lol

as a youngin, i worked at an insurance company that's probably knocked off employees and their entire families for less egreegeerrsious e-mails

Not surprising. From my experience, there is a lot of furries in IT. :doge

Anyway, he was fired for "creating a hostile workplace." So he can prove that with e-mails, but that just proves Google's point for firing him.

But surely on that basis, he could also prove that others were contributing towards the creation of the hostile workplace and therefore, by only taking action against him, these actions were discriminatory on Google's part?

I mean, sure. But it comes down to California employment laws. Google has a basis (he started the fire), but is that basis sound for firing him?

There's an issue of whether his firing was retaliatory if he was making complaints to HR or showing how their approach was not leading to greater diversity, and someone within the workplace leaked the memo in an effort to get him fired.

According to the document, the memo was seen and edited by several people over the course of this. It was an opendoc with editing notes from people who wished to comment and contribute. It was first just among the colleagues at the Diversity Summit, then he sent it to HR and Diversity, then he put it in another workgroup that talks about Diversity, and then he sent a final edit to the Skeptic community group within Google. It's at this point that someone leaked it to the press and it was edited/framed as saying women are inferior. The press always said that's how they received the memo, in its edited manner without citation.

So it was a purposeful slander job by someone at the company.

But to try slander you have to prove it was false. Framing someone's own statements one way, might be shady, but it's not FALSE.

I don't mean to go after them for slander. Point was that it was framed that way when sent to the press by someone in the company as retaliation for bringing up discriminatory practices and ineffective diversity tactics. At least, that would be the claim rather than slander.

The backlash, according to the lawsuit, came after the press articles attacking James. If it was a problem then HR and Diversity had plenty of opportunity to state so before it went to press. HR knew about the discrimination complaints and knew of Damore's memo. Only took action after the framing in the press., as if that spin job gave them something they could fire him over.

I think it's mostly due to it falling within the culture war. The larger issue is the power tech companies wield. That whole "maybe we should censor search results if they don't line up with our ideology" comment by an employee is a giant red flag.

Because biological factors create propensities towards a trait on average within a population and not deterministic absolutes for the individual. There is no discussion or citation in the memo that speaks to superiority at a skill, but rather predisposition towards interest in that field which may be a factor in the general distribution of degrees and employment within that field.  The memo's conclusion is that judging employment and promotion upon groups and tribes is the wrong way to go about it because it has not worked so far, ignores realities of the world*, and creates new discriminatory practices. Judging employment and promotion via the individual is the paper's recommended approach.

If I recall, the author didn't completely disagree with Damore's conclusion. I think he was unclear on Damore's conclusion and advised against making grand statements based on his research.

This might be the real memo link, but (lol) its hard to find the real emo via google search. The actual memo was a google open doc with commentary bubbles. What is uploaded does not have the edit/commentary history. I am not sure if that's ever been shared outside of this lawsuit.

https://www.scribd.com/document/355823379/Google-s-Ideological-Echo-Chamber#from_embed

*Google's employment of women in programming is a higher % than what exists in relative degrees, so they are actually outperforming their available pool of employment in regards to diversity. However, since the standard is 50/50 equity, they must find ways to get to that standard despite it not being a realistic goal until the public interest and hiring pool reflects that outcome. They have not been able to increase their female employment in that regard, having run into a wall of real world limitations.

That on average women and men have predispositions that could have biological causes, and that those traits would factor into the demographics of something like comp sci degrees and programming work. So he's saying rather than just defaulting to "its sexism" and producing tribal solutions to solve sexism, that you should instead understand all the variables involved in creating the current outcome so that you can find a more successful tactic towards increasing female employment.

There's a part of the memo where he talks about Google shifting more software employment towards front-end work since that may naturally attract more women.

So the current composition of women in CS fields is due to mainly or mostly to biology and not social factors?

spoiler (click to show/hide)
*Hilariously enough, one of the authors of the studies he cited completely disagreed with Damore's conclusion, but Damore doubled down and insisted that the author was on his side but was being "silenced" by the Left/Media/Jews :lol
[close]

Because biological factors create propensities towards a trait on average within a population and not deterministic absolutes for the individual. There is no discussion or citation in the memo that speaks to superiority at a skill, but rather predisposition towards interest in that field which may be a factor in the general distribution of degrees and employment within that field.

So he's not arguing that women are biologically "inferior" when it comes to software programming, but are just biologically predisposed to preferring other types of work?

That on average women and men have predispositions that could have biological causes, and that those traits would factor into the demographics of something like comp sci degrees and programming work.

So the current composition of women in CS fields is due to mainly or mostly to biology and not social factors?

No. Rarely anyone argues absolute biological determinism. That's why I said propensity and not absolute determinism.  You are dealing with nature and nurture, so make sure you include nature.

The point is that biological factors and real world differences are ignored, and that equity of outcome based solutions and goals are a bad idea.

This makes Google look pretty dumb at times. At the same time...

Quote
When Fong-Jones was reported to Google HR, Google’s initial reaction was to state that since Fong-Jones was responding “to some pretty insensitive comments from other colleagues and reacting to an environment that we know have been less than friendly to women and minorities at times,” that her behavior was taken out of context and excused her comments. Google HR then stated that “some empathy could be valuable as you reflect on the conversations.”

REFLECT!?!? EMPATHY!?! FUCK THAT!

Maybe women don't go into programming because they're less inclined to be boring nerds

The real question is are men genetically inclined to be boring nerds, or is it caused by cultural expectations

:huh

I think it's at five now. Most of the members are mental cucks, but sometimes a true cuckold joins the town. The destination itself is a easy day drive away from the famous Flavor Town.
