How do I make good coffee at home?

Most of it just seems to depend on the brand you use. I do it by hand with one of those paper filters.

If your coffee tastes like shit from a plunger though, your coffee is also going to taste like shit outta the above. Get a decent bean, get a grinder, grind before you brew, let the water sit or switch off the jug a little early, water too hot will make it bitter. Don't buy italian beans, unless you like the taste of over roasted horse shit. Simple.

http://peoplescoffee.co.nz/taking-the-plunge/ pretty much, but dump the scales. average mugs ~300ml/1 1/3rd cup, 2tbsp is ~18gms. use 2 tbsp coffee per cup you intend to make and you'll be golden.

Tea is a thing in Europe.  I just like the variety of tastes tea offers. I like how light it is. I find it relaxing.

I'd add

Depending on your method of brew allow your grinds to blossom or pre-soak in cold water not room temperature. Another thing get a digital measure scale to get the right amount and a digital thermo pen. Also once it's cold throw that shit out, old coffee can give you horrible diarrhea as the acids start to break down in the coffee and seperate from the fats.

the tastiest coffee i've ever had is coffee boiled on the stove as they do it in the north. The "mud" that forms on the bottom of your cup takes some time to get used to though.

And i've also noticed that the fancier our coffee-machines get at work, the blander the coffee tastes. I'm a coffeeservative i guess.

Most everything has already been said: only grind what you'll use at the moment, make sure you're doing the correct grind, and spend a little more on a good bag of beans. Doesn't hurt to support a good local roaster.

I like Aeropress and Chemex, but for everyday drinking my wife and I split a French Press in the morning. Maybe two. Super easy to use.

We go through a bag of beans in about a week.

Cold Brew + Electric Kettle = perfect low acidic coffee that will keep for 1-2 weeks so you don't have to worry about bean degradation after opening a bag. Also works incredibly well on the go in mornings because you can just heat some water to a boil, mix in some concentrate and you are on the road in less than three minutes.

I've had a french press, still have an aero press, obviously standard drip, cold brew is definitely the way to go at home IMO.

i find that a lot of people that say they can't make good coffee like they can have at starbucks or at some other coffee house is based on the fact that they get a mix of sugar or milk/cream in their coffee that can change the taste a lot. Straight dark coffee from a quality bean is easy to do as long as you use decent water.

But the milk/sugar/cream content will vary and it's something you have to continuously experiment with.
