Virtual Tourism - Available Locations
« on: January 14, 2018, 11:04:44 PM »
Been wanting to make this thread for a while, though it's more of a resetera kinda mass audience participation thread to fill out but I don't have an account there. Looking to make a list of all the virtual cities and locations that are available to explore through a $59.99 or less videogame purchase. Only listing real world locales (even if they are not super accurate and only loosely based on them like Infamous/Fallout), so Just Cause 2/3 "bunch of islands" as cool as they are is not listed, as is not the planet Mira from Xenoblade X. Here's what I can think of:

Not USA or Japan:
-Jerusalem - AC1
-Damascus - AC1
-Acre - AC1
-Tuscany - AC2
-Florence - AC2
-Rome - AC Brotherhood
-Constantinople - AC Revelations
-Paris - AC Unity
-France (German Occupied) - The Saboteur
-London - AC Syndicate

USA:
-New Orleans - Infamous 2
-Seattle - Infamous Second Son
-New York - Mafia I/II (early 2000s), GTAIV (modern), AC3 (1700s)
-Boston (1700s) - AC3, Fallout 3 (post-apocalypse)
-Los Angeles - GTAV, GTA San Andreas
-Las Vegas - GTA San Andreas, Fallout New Vegas (post-apocalypse)
-Chicago - Watchdogs
-San Francisco - Watchdogs 2
-Miami - GTA Vice City

Japan: (various Yakuza info may be incorrect because there are so many of them I can't keep track)
Tokyo (Kabukicho only) - Yakuza 1-6
Osaka - Yakuza 2/4/5/6?
Okinawa - Yakuza 3
Kyoto (edo period) - Yakuza Kenzan, Yakuza Isshin

Please add stuff you can think of!

Egypt (and some Roman thrown in) - AssCreed Origins

The game literally has a "virtual tourist" mode built in

I think the Arma or Operation Flashpoint islands are based on real islands? Though I think they take liberties with it so they're "based" but not exactly like the islands they ape from.

The only virtual tourism you need is cs_rio in Counter Strike 1.6

The Getaway games had London.

Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway had decent Dutch countryside and cityscapes.

The Hitman games generally have settings that capture certain areas pretty well. I loved the Rotterdam levels in Contracts.

Nintendo actually had this on WiiU.

Google Maps VR on Oculus is super cool for this stuff too.
