You fucked up.

It's what...almost three hours long?  As soon as I saw that, I waited for it to come home.

Liked it, but it has nothing on the original.

First time I paid and saw it with friends.

Second time was for free from work on my last day because we worked on a project for it.

7/10.

It could have been so much more.

It's funny, because in many ways I'm just feeling grateful that it wasn't an unqualified trainwreck, as I'd feared.

I haven't seen the original in years but I remember it being much weirder than 2049. There were some cool atmospheric moments in the first half of the film but it just got more and more conventional Hollywood as it went along.

Can't be worse than the first one.

Is way less boring, but ia still a low paced film. The revelation before the ending is kind of clumsy even when it makes sense.

I ended enjoying it a lot after digesting it, but has its problems.

Just watched it. Mackenzie Davis. :whew I didn't recognize her for a moment and then I was like "OH, IT'S CAMERON FROM HALT AND CATCH FIRE!"

I enjoyed it way more than the first. I agree with PD in that the first one was kinda boring. This one explored the Replicants lives a little and focused on K/Joe specifically. I didn't like the "twist" at the end, but I got why it was like that.

I bought this today at released on digital, but had been waiting to see it until it was a good time to watch. Ended up being yesterday, before the rest of the family woke up.

This was everything I had hoped it would be without realizing what I wanted. It has the same reverent treatment of its own environment, respect for the characters motivations, and internal consistency as the original.  It also nicely encapsulated how much more complicated our world has become since the original by having so many different forces at play with different and opposing goals.

There’s an obvious joke to be made here about choosing somebody with Ryan gosling‘s Limited acting range to play the kind of character he is. This was true in drive as well. Gosling is either on or off, seems to have very limited middle range. The same was true about the original Terminator movie turning  Schwarzenegger into a movie star by playing to his weaknesses as an actor. Or any role that has Keanu Reeves saying “Whoa.“

I’m looking forward to watching it again in a couple of weeks after my brain has settled on bit more. Denis Villaneueve is unstoppable.

I think Gosling is a good actor. Look for him to shut his doubters down with a tour de force performance showing his multi-faceted acting abilities and range in the future.

I hope so.

Colin Farrell was like that for me until I saw In Bruges and The Lobster.

It's way better than the original. Personally, I don't think seeing the original added that much to it for me.

You can safely watch 2049 without having seen the original. But I love the original and would recommend it to anybody that loves cyberpunk/noir or great 80s a e s t h e t i c.
