MLB 2018 season
« on: March 03, 2018, 10:41:16 PM »
Can the Astros repeat? Will the Dodgers finally get over the hump? How will Stanton do in a Yankees uniform?

Who gives a shit?!

More interesting:
Which division is the bigger dumpster fire? NL East or AL Central?
Will some organization finally see the light and give Ozzie Guillen another shot at managing them?
Will Jake Arrieta become a full time political activist now since apparently nobody wants him to pitch?

Yeah, I didn't find a MLB thread on the first three pages but I thought it would be fun to occasionally whine about my shitty team throughout the year in this thread.

I still can't believe the Indians lost to the damn Yankees last season. They still look like they'll have that pattern where they're on fire for about 4-6 weeks at a time and then go totally cold for a good 2 weeks after.

I wouldn't worry that much about the Indians. They will win the division easily. The division is just that bad that even a really mediocre Twins team will finish second by default and probably even get a wild card thanks to the unbalanced schedule.

A few years ago my girlfriend asked me "Who's Jordan Zimmermann?"

I had a brain fart and responded something like "Are you serious?  You don't know who Jordan Zimmermann is?!  He's that shithead who got away with mudering Trayvon Martin.  Fuck that guy.  Why, what'd he do now?"

Her:  "Umm...Are you sure?  I'm reading here that the Tigers just signed him"

Me:  "Holy shit!  OOOPS.  Jordan Zimmermann, not George Zimmermann!  My bad!  Fuck YEAH!"

This was after the 2015 season where the Tigers stunk but made a few trades to get excited for in dealing Cespedes and Price at the deadline to get some pretty good prospects like Matt Boyd, Daniel Norris, and Michael Fulmer.
Verlander was coming back to form, Sanchez was still possibly a good pitcher battling injury, and the rest of our team sans bullpen was solid.  Then we signed Justin Upton soon after and it felt like the Tigers were in a transition period where they could still contend in the "now" but that the future would also be bright without having to go through a teardown.

Now that's all gone to shit.

Oh, and Jordan Zimmermann is our opening day starter.

I meant to get in on a fantasy baseball league but totally lost track.  That was about the only way I could get excited for this season.  Now, as a Tigers fan, it's nothing but suck.

If Fulmer's great then he'll get traded at the deadline.
If Cabrera is great it'll just mean we won't be quite as bad as the Marlins or Royals so we lose a few spots in the draft order.

I didn't watch or listen to a single spring training game.  I should have remembered to cancel the auto-renew on my MLB.TV thing.  $140 down the drain.

I just hope Verlander and the Astros win it again and that Max Scherzer throws a perfect game.  Not much else excites me right now.  Didn't even pick up MLB The Show this year.

Now that it's postponed I wonder how empty Comerica is gonna look tomorrow.

What's with the opening weekend schedules? Ms play today, have tomorrow off, then play Saturday and Sunday before already leaving on a road trip to San Francisco, Minnesota and KC.

Ozzie Albies looks like he's gonna be the real deal, Ronald Acuna Jr. could be rookie of the year, and when we finally bring Mike Soroka up he's probably gonna be a mid-rotation starter out of the gate.

...the Braves will still struggle to be a .500 team this year despite all of that, including Freddie Freeman playing out of his mind.

Gundam: lots of off days are a regular April feature as teams ease back into the grind. Also, the MLB schedule maker is insane.

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I liked it more when that couple was doing it.

Probably a casualty of the always-on interleague schedule where you have classic opening day matchups like the Detroit Tigers versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He still sucks though and the Sox still traded Fernando Tatis Jr. for this bum.
Nice to see Davidson and Anderson with multi-homer games but the truth is:

Extra innings rules need to change. Fuck tradition. No one enjoys these marathon games. There is no one left in the crowd and the announcers sound bored. All the hitters try to swing for the fences and teams have to exhaust their bullpens, leaving them fucked for half a week after.

I've talked about this with my friends recently, but man when Sammy and McGwire were slamming them dongs back in 98, nobody gave two shits about how they were doing it, least of all the league.

I couldn't muster much excitement for this season.
Every top prospect has underperformed significantly. Moncada is dreadful against lefties and K's way too much,
Anderson is allergic to walks, Giolito has an ERA of 6, Lopez looks like a reliever. Kopech is throwing 93 instead of 100. And Eloy Jimenez is pissed because he didn't get called up.
James Shields still on the team.

Indians are in the same boat. They are coasting through to a division title, but still the 4th best team in the American, so it won't matter.

We're not even coasting, just a 3.5 game lead, and our schedule is way tougher than Philly's the rest of the way. Will probably come down to the 6 head to head games we have left with them.

It's dumb, Philly has a negative run differential but is somehow way better than the Nats in the standings. I wonder when the last time a team with a negative run differential won a division was?

Legit can't process or deal with the things that happened tonight after the first out of the 7th inning.

What happened is the Sox are a good team and you can't rest on your laurels against them.

As they're also demonstrating at the moment. :preach
