Ru Paul in particular is super transphobic
Maybe phobic is harsh?
Basically, incredibly dismissive of gender. Doesn’t think transitioning people should be on the show. He tweeted “ you can take performance-enhancing drugs and still be an athlete just not in the Olympics” as an appalling comparison, which is ridiculous considering how many contestants on the show have had plastic surgery.
A lot of the shows contestants and other well-known drag individual spoke out against him after this, in support of the trans community.
He did apologize for this but it isn’t the first blow to the trans community he’s made. He also said a few years ago:. “I love the word ‘cheeseburger, And no one has ever said the word ‘cheeseburger’ in a derogatory sense.”
He also kept doing the “you’ve got she-mail” thing until the network made him stop and then he got pissy about it.
Ru Paul strongly believes that drag is an outlet for men to rail against masculinity. But the he has expressed this has often been incredibly dismissive of all the trans people that contribute not only to drag but his show and entire career. He has admitted to believing that drag loses some of its affect or power when it’s not a cis man doing it.
