You don't get how these anti-progressive attitudes and hot takes about Resetera being posted in here (like yours), in fucking 2018 no less, are kind of disgusting?

I was going to educate you with a three paragraph thesis about why you're trashy and judgemental, but it looks like your profile pic did it for me. That, and the three posts of yours I've read say everything there is to know about you tbh.

By promoting your shitshow of negative peace, you've sided with extremist centrist monsters such as Jerry Seinfeld, Matt Groening, Joe Rogan, Ken Levine, Bernie Sanders, Elon Musk, Trey Parker & Matt Stone, etc. FUCK your bullshit opinion.

When you finally accept that society is evolving to no longer tolerate such intolerance, and that us humans who are actually worthy of dignity deserve the freedom of living in a society where nobody make any more social blunders (as though any moment of social ignorance isn't an action of bad faith) maybe your opinion will be respectable. But until then you have some fucking learning to do.

Since I'm already permed, might as well throw this PM I had with Finale Fireworker out there.  Nothing as juicy as those old besada PMs, but at least it's confirmation of some stuff, like them knowing people are getting increasingly more violent and the staff not knowing how to handle it.

This was during the debacle with the MAGA kid getting soda thrown on him.

(Image removed from quote.)

Finale Fireworker: "You condoned a more severe level of violence, so you deserved a more severe punishment."

Also Finale Fireworker, 3 days earlier, in the thread where everyone is--by his own admission--celebrating actual assault and life-threatening violence (the racist guy getting punched onto the tracks where he could have died): "Let's not enjoy this too much guys, lol, thread closed"

No bans, no warnings. Oh, wait, one ban... of a guy calling everyone out for condoning life-threatening violence.

Oh yes, definitely. But I should not be required to call them 'female' when they are still looking like a dude and have a dick.  They aren't fucking female, imo. I love you Himu and Botolf, and LTTS, but yeah, you're still dudes.

And guess what? You try to force my opinion to change? You're no better than the people you rail against. It's my right to not see you as an actual female. I ain't doing shit with you. But I still love you as a person.

Story time:

I saw this girl and guy in the elevator.   I was wearing a feminist shirt (girl's want to have fundamental rights)

Girl read and re read my shirt like three times. (i was trying to check her out and kept getting denied)

He was probably her pimp though.

Should I have done something marrec?

She was probably wondering about that apostrophe that had no business being there.

that fee-male thread is a good example of their moderation problems you have like say, four posts that all say the same thing about people getting offended over words...one dude is warned, one banned 3 days, another a week, and a "duration pending" which usually seems to mean "permanent" and it ranges from "trolling" to "dismissive" to "sexism" but it's basically the same post

though this one is the best :lol

No joke, it's kinda insane that someone would memorize 22+ minutes of non-stop rapidfire dialogue for some shitball rap show.  That's like an entire movie script for a prominent character.  These people are nuts.  I hope this guy gets paid good for this.

This is hilarious and pathetic because Wokepoint and Kotaku have an entire audience already through their website, newletters, and so on. Their twitch stream isn't their brand. Just move to youtube or whatever and embed it on your frontpage. Job done. Hell, throw a huge "WE MOVED TO YOUTUBE CLICK HERE" on your twitch channel if you want. But to quit twitch for one day and act like its some big play? :lol :lol

If he wasn’t willing to follow through, he shouldn’t have said he was going to not stream on prime day.

Multiple people on the twitch chat made them aware that it was currently prime day, but that didn’t stop them.

They also had about 300 max viewers. If missing 300 viewers for one day will cause Waypoint to go out of business, he shouldn’t have said he was going to boycott streaming.

They also just locked discussion of it on their forum.

Is there a summary somewhere of the accusations against Austin/coworker or whatever? I have no clue about any of it but see it referenced occasionally. Google leads me to nothing.
Before Austin got hired at Giant Bomb, we streamed together on a twitch streaming group called Streamfriends with a group of other people. The whole goal was to make a safe, chill space on twitch without judgement for whatever (sex/gender, orientation, race, etc, etc). Thing were going well and it lead to offshoots like their RPG podcast Friends at the Table. Then one day Austin sends out an email that there was an issue with one of the members of the streaming group sending dick pics to female viewers without consent. He also said that he cleared it all up and that coincidentally the victim asked that the sexual harasser not be named (his name is Andrew Lee Swan by the way, I linked his twitter above) and that they not be punished at all in any way. Weird. So I thought this was unacceptable and quit the group over this.

Years later the group sorta disbanded on its own, Austin got the job at GB and then Waypoint and went on to hire all of his friends to write articles and reviews for those sites. Whatever, that's to be expected. But then I got annoyed by the behavior of Austin and other members of the group as they piled on that Nick whatever dude from Polygon who was creeping on girls on Twitter but not acknowledging the issues at Streamfriends that they all covered up. So I posted about it on Twitter and Bore and got a bunch of people who monetarily benefited from Austin hiring them DMing me telling me to delete everything etc. I also got DMs from people who got dick pics sent to them and they outed who did it. I ended up caving and deleting my tweets over it anyway.

But it's just funny how this keeps coming up that Austin is Mr. Super Woke until it has a chance of hurting his pocket and then all conversation is shut down. And the dick pic sender is still a part of his patreon funded RPG podcast because why not, right?

So I posted about it on Twitter and Bore and got a bunch of people who monetarily benefited from Austin hiring them DMing me telling me to delete everything etc. I also got DMs from people who got dick pics sent to them and they outed who did it. I ended up caving and deleting my tweets over it anyway.

But it's just funny how this keeps coming up that Austin is Mr. Super Woke until it has a chance of hurting his pocket and then all conversation is shut down. And the dick pic sender is still a part of his patreon funded RPG podcast because why not, right?

Thanks for writing that up. If you have the Pms and any evidence, you could reasonably approach one of the numerous outlets. Granted, it would have less to do with the hypocrisy and more to do with the dick pic guy.

I guess REers never met folk from the midwest.

edit: Walmart is pretty much "downtown" for some small midwestern towns.  :doge

Yeah I still have some DMs and the email chain but at this point it don't think it would make much difference to anyone

Hey everyone,

It took me by surprise when, about 20 or 30 minutes into today’s stream, I caught someone in the chat saying that Prime day was still going. After all, when I did a search for it, what I saw was language like “Prime Day is a one-day only global shopping event exclusively for Prime members,” and when I first saw the online calls for support, many of them specifically called out the 16th as a day for cross-industry solidarity.

So, once we finished Hot Mic Mornings, we spent time getting updated on the situation. Turns out, as y’all know, Prime Day was always meant to continue through today and some folks are already suggesting that because of outages on Amazon’s side, it may wind up being extended even further.

The thing is, collective organization is always messy, especially when it’s decentralized and multi-national. And corporate language is always misleading—Amazon’s “one day” language on a multi-day sale is an example of a strategy explicitly meant to entice shoppers into thinking their opportunity for purchase is limited. But we cannot let the inconsistency of organizational language or the misleading sales rhetoric of a company to be cover for inaction or faux-ignorance.

While this combination of mixed messaging from organizers and confusion around Prime Day’s length and timing led to us streaming this morning, now that we’re clear on it all, we can and must do the right thing and cancel today’s XCOM stream, and hold off on any other streams during this moment of solidarity with Amazon’s workers.

There’s been a lot of interesting debate in this thread about what we should do as a site and also about what we as individuals can, should, and must do. I can answer the plans for the former, and as for the latter, I can give my very personal answer.

The team doesn’t feel comfortable streaming to some other platform during this strike. Partially, that’s because we have ongoing issues with other services. And partially that’s because whether intentionally or not, that would be us using the strike to test out other platforms, which goes against the goal of solidarity in this moment.

As an individual, I know that I am always-already compromised. I live in a country that grew its wealth on slavery and colonization, and benefit today from those actions even as I move in racist spaces. I work for a corporation that my team has delivered demands to. We work everyday with platforms owned by companies that I think do awful, inhumane things. But I still have a responsibility to join in with and wave the flag of collective action whenever I can. Collective action is never perfect, and its almost always strategic. There, I don’t mean strategic in the strategy-game sense, I mean strategic as in recognizing the limits and hypocrisies of the action, and doing it anyway.
When we take strategic action—like strikes, protests, boycotts, etc.—we aren’t saying that we all agree. We obviously (as this thread shows) have disagreements large and small about how to go about changing the world. Those differences are both procedural and idealogical. That’s okay. But moments of strategic action are those where we say “okay, pause, for right now let’s be unified on this one big thing, and push.”

I genuinely think there is value in discussing different positions here. I know that in my own life, my family and I have been in positions where joining boycotts would severely harm our household. I can’t look back and scold my mother for making sure I could eat and that she could pay rent those months. What I can do is that now—as Editor-in-Chief of this site and as someone who thankfully has been given the means to make independent economic choices thanks to all of your support—is say that the team at Waypoint will continue to take a stand here today, and tomorrow if the strike continues.

Thanks for your patience everyone. As you continue the conversation here, please remember to consider your responses carefully and to speak to each other with clarity of purpose. I think there are real differences of opinion here, and they’re grounded in real differences in circumstance. But behind each is a desire to drag that better world (which we all know is possible) into existence. Let’s focus there, for now, and focus on sharing resources and strategies to bring more people into this large, arduous fight.
