Hell, in another Overwatch thread we had a poster try to bring up Genji and Hanzo's "racist accents" despite one VA being native Japanese and the other being Japanese American.

It's just become exhausting to have these conversations when people are so quick to go straight for the throat. I don't blame those who are upset over representation, what they feel are their real feelings. I just don't feel like the conversation will ever lead to anything better than "let's drag these people for this thing."

Skins are said to be alternate appearances that players can apply to characters in video games.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, urged Irvine (California) headquartered Blizzard Entertainment CEO Michael Morhaime and its parent Santa Monica (California) based Activision Blizzard’s CEO Bobby Kotick to withdraw the Devi skin in the video game, as it trivialized Hinduism’s highly revered goddesses.

Moreover, Devi and its movements depicted in Overwatch did not match with characterization of the goddesses in the scriptures, Rajan Zed noted.

Zed stated that Blizzard Entertainment needed to follow its own “core values” which included “lead responsibly” (As one of the world’s leading game companies, we’re committed to making ethical decisions), as in this case it was creating confusion in the minds of community about Devi by misrepresentation.

Rajan Zed indicated that reimagining Hindu scriptures, symbols, concepts and deities for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it created confusion. Controlling and manipulating Devi with a joystick/ button/keyboard/mouse was denigration. Devi was meant to be worshipped in temples and home shrines and not to be reduced to just a “character” in a video game to be used in combat in the virtual battleground.

Like others have said, Overwatch has a lot of diversity. More than most games I'd say.

It's simply impossible to make everyone happy. People need to realize this.

There are also other races and ethnicities that aren't represented in Overwatch, but you don't see them complaining.

It is unrealistic to expect Blizzard to add every single race and ethnicity in the game. Blizzard has done a good job with its diverse cast of heroes.

Ana and Pharah express absolutely nothing in terms of the sociopolitical ramifications of "black culture." They were born in an Arabic country, they speak Arabic, they dress in Arabic clothing, have Arabic voice actresses, and have not- as far as we know in lore- have had to engage in or deal with any of the systemic issues that black Egyptians actually face.

From my distinctly American perspective. Lucio is unmistakably black all day long. Ana and Pharah are Arabic people.
