If steam-era form a splinter forum, would that make them the first official splinter forum to result from REE? Little over half a year, not bad.

While it chugs along in its own self-contained kind of way, in spite of whatever bs goes on in the greater site, I can't see that community migrating into a separate forum. It's too much effort :P It already has the Steam group, the Discord, and its function on the forum is essentially just for slightly less ephemeral interactions/impressions/news among both regulars but also the occasional users that pop in from other places.

forums are weird, it's become a place to have less interesting conversations in public, it's essentially a stage play for viewers (bore less so because no one comes here to read our stupid opinions, I hope  :heh ) Even at the scale of the bore though. I've had some amazing conversations via PM/DM and discord with some of you, things that would probably be impossible on the forum itself as it would be trolled to hell and back.

That whole steam thread and it’s subsequent “bureaucracy” is ridiculous. Just pop shit posters for shit posting. It’s just fan forum on the internet about video games lol. I give mr orange credit tho, squeezing blood from the stone that is getting any sort of PC discussion going on Neogaf/RE. I gave up trying that shit like 8 years ago, and browsed SA and rpgcodex for that instead.

What I don't get is why there needs to be a hardware focus for there to have been a "protected class" in the first place, purely from a mod pov.

Steam is a software platform, and even then, couldn't mods just slap nitwits on the wrist for intentionally shitting up the thread regardless?

Seems a bit silly that there is a need for so much deliberation, "protections", mod consultation etc.

It's just a videogame forum, if you want a good mod presence just warn people for disrupting any chill vibe and dish out bans to people who are intentionally being dicks.

Inevitable outcome of people tying their entire online identities to of all things, video game brands and publishers. I think that thread devoted to helping people adjust their avatars (in preparation, lmao) for the Gods of War release said it all really.

No different from GAF, there can't possibly be best or consistent mod practice when mods themselves are invested in such behaviour.

I sorta get the outrage about the WWE Saudi thing but I honestly just can't take any complaints about it seriously from people who watch like 7+ hours a week of WWE content plus 4 hour monthly PPVs for the sole reason of bitching and moaning about how bad it sucks. This doesn't just go for Resetti but for other forums, Reddit, and even wrasslin podcasts and news sites.

People lost their mind about the relatively minor issue of one match at Wrestlemania being named after a dead wrassle hag but will still watch this five hour show to complain about it even though the Saudis are pure evil or whatever. I guess they are getting one over on the man by pirating it but that's really the definition of slacktivism to the max. Hell it's even beyond that in laziness since an actual slacktivist would just not watch the show.

Some interesting names posting about watching a problematic wrestling show.

Strange, seeing as how the WWE was the Trump campaign's largest donor.

You'd think someone so vehemently against Trump would stop supporting a corporation who played a major part in getting Donald Trump elected.

 :money

More so, the event that thread is about is exceptional:  A Saudi bigshot is bankrolling the whole thing.  Women are forbidden from participating.  I think that's fucked up enough to where I'll skip it.  Normally I don't give two shits about armchair slacktivism but this really put me off.  Seeing the loudest slacktivist of all chirping away, obviously intending on watching the show, is pretty funny.

I'll be watching the VOD of it on the network but it just cracks me up to see the internet wrasslin world be so up in arms with outrage and yet still carving out time to watch it live while complaining about how "WWE doesn't REALLY care about women". Yes reconciling the fact the most popular "community" thread on reset is a form of entertainment that embodies sexism, toxic masculinity and racism is pretty difficult.
I actually don't think it embodies any of that in the modern era and that doesn't actually have much to do with what you quoted anyway. It's just the hypocrisy around the nonsense for this PPV on Resetti that I find eye-roll inducing.

I mean like any concept in my opinion people take things too far;  personally think there is nothing wrong with some of the basics of gender roles, including some expectation of men being more "tough" or whatever (while some would label even that toxic, which I would ask, what is masculinity then on it's own?).  But if you actually think that concept can't become something toxic, I just think that's stupid.  The expectation of being tough falls apart when a man goes through something horrible and has no support or hasn't learned how to cope with emotions;  tends to instead turn everything into misplaced anger.  Which of course can happen to anyone man or woman but tends to be more prevalent in men.   That's not to mention the use of violence to solve problems being something that can fairly obviously be toxic, and is certainly tied to masculinity.   Which is basically the entire setup for the WWE's "plots"; "you took my girl!  me hurt you!"

I agree with everything you've said. but the term is rarely used appropriately and is almost always used to describe anything that is not passively feminine, and is most certainly a shorthand for "anything manly that isn't progressive".

"toxic masculinity" and "embrace of violence culture" to describe WWE cracks me up. It's less violent than fight scenes in movies and closer to acrobatics and theater than to any actual martial art or act of violence.

What's so funny about the term?

It's hostile, one-sided and usually used by imbeciles that want to shit on men. Both sexes have advantages and disadvantages, listening to idiot feminists talk about toxic masculinity makes you think that there's some kind of systemic societal problem just with men. I've talked about this before but what about toxic femininity? What about the insecurity, the passive-aggressive behavior, the narcissism, the propensity to play the victim and so on? There hasn't been an angle like that in years. I literally can't even remember the last time there was one. The main storyline for 90% of WWE is "have 70 matches and hate each other after being booked against each other for months with no progression"
What about that shitty Rusev, Lana, Summer Rae and Dolph Ziggly angle that was so shitty they had to break kayfabe to end it?

Well no I haven't watched it in decades;  so maybe it's changed.  I had a roommate in the late 90s who would put it on and it was like a soap opera where they eventually hit each other over the head with chairs.

If you qualify being something similar to soap operas as a negative, then actual soap operas, that are targeted towards women, must be even worse. Checkmate, women.

Sure, why not both?

I'm not saying I'm on the side of the typical actors who throw the term around, particularly on Re where you are a sexist pig non-ally if you dare like looking at naked women or something.  I'm just saying the term itself has meaning and is a real concept.

Because when women whine about men's bullshit it's feminist activism against toxic muscularity, when men whine about women's bullshit it's misogyny. So kindly fuck off with this double standard bullshit feminists.

Toxic masculinity refers to how societal constructs / gender roles cause problems, not "men."  It's not bigoted in any way.

You are way too fucking sensitive about this;  joining the "threatened by this term" club with JayDumbfuck.

Oh, the term just describes society, not men. Then why, oh why, not call it toxic femininity for example? Or toxic pumpkin.  Why the focus on male traits? It must be a sheer coincidence, right?
