I feel that if you do not understand the difference between "actual sexual content" that has proper context in a game's story/world (even if not always completely unproblematic) and the problematic nature of the  blatant objectification & sexualization of every character (even ones that weren't originally hugely so) in (one of) the first women only fighting games from one of the grandaddies of fighting games (in a long time, at least), then I don't think you are fit to comment on the issue. This isn't just fan service-y. This is 100% pure fan service.

Not all sexual content is "bad" or grounds for criticism. Context and surrounding factors matter. Framing matters. A game portraying two consenting adults having sex and being nude during it isn't worth criticism. It gets problematic when it's one-sided, when it's overused sexual violence against women and when the context doesn't fit. A game about war where men are clad in proper military apparel and then Quiet comes barging in clad in bikinis and offering a striptease show in the rain for no good reason is bad. Fantasy games where men are clad in 9 layers of thick armour that covers all vs. women whose most powerful defensive gear are bikinis or boob armour with a big cleavage hole are bad.

 You don't see many people criticizing something like Senran Kagura (other than the pedo-creepy underage characters) because it's an IP that was conceived as a pervy game. It does its thing and there's nothing ultimately wrong with specific IPs catering to that crowd.

Bayonetta gets some criticism for how the framing of Bayonetta is frequently more or less objectifying but there are some redeeming factors to her character (while the camera angles can be objectifying, her character is arguably sex positive and in control of her own sexuality, which are fairly positive traits in female characters).  It would be different if Nintendo came up with a Metroid game where Samus frequently turned naked for some silly reason. There'd be far more vocal criticism because Samus is an established character and doing her dirty like that would be pretty shitty and worth a mountain of criticism. Bayonetta is an original IP/character so it gets a bit more leeway with that sort of thing, though also some fair criticism.

SNK Heroines could've been an empowering woman-oriented fighter that takes the best that SNK's female roster has to offer and pits them against each other in a serious fighter. Instead it's yet another fan service addition for pervy men in the pantheon of fan service games that pander to pervy men, made even worse that it takes existing characters who originally weren't necessarily the worst offenders in female fighting game character designs and puts them through fan service's objectifying glass. Plus as if that wasn't enough, it does that annoying thing where something that is also claimed to cater to girls/women is made all pink and cute because that's obviously what all women who play fighting games want.

First off Famassu - Thanks for taking the time to write a serious reply. I might see some things in a different way, but I do appreciate the thought out, properly presented viewpoint! I'll just reply back in PMs though; the back and forth of these kind of conversations don't serve a "review" or even an OT thread well.

That is absolutely the case. I once got a 3 day ban for a post where I said the root of incel's dangerous behavior is their extreme loneliness and inability to see their own faults. Banned for "excusing misogyny." I guess in the view of the mods people just wake up and become evil. What nuance.
