From what I witnessed did someone check linked in and then guessed that this guy is in charge of Twitter and found an old blog post where he points out how idiotic it was when Sarkeesian whined about the violence in Doom during E3. The article had the guy's real name attached and some got worried that this is too close to doxxing.

I suggest you research a bit more. It's about some research that came out about inner monologues, and a modern interpretation of P-Zombies. It only became about "owning the libs" after Kotaku wrote an article saying it was a way to make fun of SJWs, which put the meme into overdrive.

That’s because many on the left are weak. They’re scared of guns in a time when they claim the state is fascist and have fear of death camps. Anyone with any common sensical will to preserve life would buy a gun, as I did, if they truly believed this. They also are prone to a victim complex. So not creatively and smartly using the meme against the right is...well, not really surprising.

Its a classic that stands the test of time. The first half of the show still has some of the most epic moments in both action and story telling. The thing with these memes is that they only work if the left/libs it is intended to own take the bait.
