What's the point of "banning" off-site sleuthing if you still act on the information that sleuthing produce? All that does is encourage more off-site sleuthing since, as those users saw, if at least a few other posters see the information and quote it repeatedly, a mod is going to react in their favor. The banning of off-site sleuthing is toothless when that is the case.

Ok, i'll defend this decision: Better this than the alternative; ending up on their little blacklist, and getting perma'd over a vague history of histories, at the first slightly minor infraction.

It's probably just an overlap between mostly disparate groups.

Also, the Russia/Glenn Greenwald entanglement. There's this odd and very likely SUPER FAKE patriotism that's been permeating left-wing circles ever since Trump was elected. They're clinging to the flag because yelling "TRAITOR" at Trump is a sort of gotcha for the GOP who continue to support him despite the obvious ties to Russia. Glenn is a more principled anti-establishment reporter who is really just in all of this to fuck America so he helped Snowden not out of a sense of patriotism for America but instead to burn it all down. So in order to maintain the veneer of patriotism they have to pretend that Snowden is somehow a traitor and not just a dude who tried to do the right thing and got fucked for it.
