i actually know little about her, but her dad was a big deal here for a bit (mayor of our largest city and cereal magnate). im a bit of a terf in this situation. women have been, and will continue to be, excluded from the top tiers of popular pro sports because of the disparity in physical prowess because biology, and this makes a mockery of this exclusion.

b8: will trans-women dominate female pro-sports in a few decades?

And what about that highschool wrestler that's transitioning female to male? Shouldn't he, by their own logic wrestle against the gender he identifies with?

sorry, i don't quite understand what you're saying shos. is gloria steinem not a terf? what is "TERF-surfing"? (assuming it means stating trans-exclusionary opinions). my opinion is by definition trans-exclusionary in this case; trans-women being included in women's sports makes a mockery of the inexorable inequality between sexes in pro-sports.

i think we need a remake of A League of Their Own.

it's good to hear your definition. i associated terf as a tumblr/twitter slur for radfems. i wasn't aware there was a more objective definition for it, i genuinely thought it was akin to something like hipster where the definition is fairly broad and in the eye of the beholder. i was mostly being self-deprecating and using it as a meme word. i've also heard gloria steinem referred to as a terf, along with a fairly large cabal of 2nd wave feminists. my use of the word was not all that serious  :-[

I would argue they already sort of are overrepresented considering their make up of the population, when there aren’t really many trans men who play sports at a professional level.

Look at Renée Richards, she undergoes sex reassignment surgery and basically goes from an amateur male tennis player to a female professional tennis player at around 40 years old.

I think mixing male and female sport leagues is a bad idea. I'm not opposed to it, in an experimental sort of way, but the deluded kind of feminists who don't think there are physiological differences between men and women will not like the results of said experiment. It would be counterproductive to their goals.

Take WTA, for example. Now I don't like watching women's tennis, but a lot of people say there is more drama in women's tennis than men's and they prefer it. Male tennis is a lot more homogenized with most players adopting similar play styles. If they absorbed female tennis players into the ATP it would be the death of women's tennis. They wouldn't be competitive and you wouldn't see women at any big tournaments. And the gender pay gap would grow much further.

We din't need to pretend that female sports are exactly the same as their male counterparts to find merit in them. They should be appreciated on their own merits.

The only instances where I strongly oppose mixed gender competition is combat sports, because well, it's dangerous.

Not sure about the rulea, but they have no incentive to participate as long as they have their own organizations. They know they wouldn't be competitive and would male way less money.

All the shit John McEnroe for telling it like it is was embarrassing.
