LTTP: The Witness
« on: April 16, 2018, 05:35:59 AM »
I haven't played a videogame since GTA V came out, so I decided to buy pirate this and I'm having a lot of fun. Knowing a little about jblow I'm trying to figure out what the game's "about" and
spoiler (click to show/hide)
based on the first tape the point is that you can do whatever you want in your life because you've got this incredible ability to figure things out, just like all humans do. And the whole game is there to bear witness to your accomplishment. That's actually pretty deep. And the rest of the audio tapes and visual tapes reinforce the inner divinity stuff with esotericism etc. For instance there's a fun little statue in game that's reaching for a cup but if you look at his shadow, he's already "got" the cup. :lol Jon's pretty new age sometimes.

Only got two of the lasers so far. Stuck in the zen garden. Did anyone else play this?

This game sucks and theres nothing philosophical about it at all. You literally just walk around and connect the dots in various convoluted ways. Myst is better

If you like philosophical stuff track down the 45 minute long video in the game.

(Or play The Talos Principle instead.)

Yep, do this. It's basically Portal with philosophy.

Talks principle was a cool game. I never quite finished it but enjoyed the 75-% of it or so that I played

It's Croteam (Serious Sam people) that made the game. They got two writers that went into philosophical concepts before. Tom Jubert that wrote The Swapper and Jonas Kyratzes that wrote The Sea Will Claim Everything.

Obduction [from the developers of Myst] is supposed to be pretty good.

I’m of the minority that thought the swapper sucked, but the story was pretty cool.

Quern is in the same vein as Myst. I've seen it praised on Reddit as a good one of those.

Pretentious hipster indie games are now a dime a dozen so the novelty wore off...

I met Blow and had a long conversation with him about game narrative. Years later, he put up some bad tweet about gun violence in games and I responded with the host of studies that show no link between games and real world violence. Someone else responded to me "But maybe another study will find it" and was serious. I was like... probably not. And then Blow blocked me on twitter. :lol

I wouldn't say he's thin skinned as much as he has a tendency to stumble into controversy and gets freaked out by it. He was reall y"I don't want to talk about anything other than game design because I don't want controversy" and you had to pry any other thoughts out of him.

Fez [...] one of the best games I've ever played

 :foodcourt

Tried to play that shot multiple times because it’s “so amazing “

Verdict: it sucks.
