Since Bethesda seems to be fine bringing back failed IPs from last gen, can we get a sequel to the GOAT Bethesda game?

lol I got that vibe too. To be fair, pretty much every post-apocalyptic wasteland thing tends to have a similar vibe.

Honestly a better game might be some sort of post apocalyptic just cause mash up.

I don’t really feel like Rage has any distinct enough features to distinguish it as distinctly “Rage” apart from being vaguely first person mad max.

I would not be mad if they completely threw out them the FPS part and created something very different.

I would fuck with an open-world, post-apocalyptic wasteland Battle Royal Rage with light RPG elements. Give me a cross between PUBG and Zelda: Breath of the Wild set in a Mad Max universe.

I liked Rage quite a bit. I also like good Avalanche.

But if this is good team Avalanche than I guess JC4 is  :doge  :'(

I kinda like Avalanche but was never that into the JC games or the Mad Max game. So not really excited for this anymore now that id isn't working on it, but I'm glad they're probably making Doom instead.

According to what's been said, it's a co-development deal between id and Avalance [though it hasn't been said whether one or the other is the lead team]. And stop worrying about Doom 2, bruh.

You've got Avalanche in Manhattan that did Just Cause 4, and Avalanche in Sweden that did Mad Max. I'm not sure if the NYC guys are still around. I used to work at their office though, nice guys in a ridiculously posh location (Soho!).

The original was alright until you had to start car racing and shit, but did anything scream this needs a sequel? Might have to revisit it.

I read somewhere that pulling off the great shooting mechanics in RAGE's smaller areas/controlled encounters, along with everything about much of the world construction they tried to do, helped them reconsider the original path Doom 4 was taking. (Which was like RAGEx4 in some places.) In a sort of: "Look how enjoyable it was in that game, wonder if we should make a whole game based around it primarily...you know, stripped back, no cars, etc."

The open worlds in Mad Max and Just Cause 3 weren't really the problems, it was the totally lackluster scenario and mission designs, a lot of generic checklists to deal with, in JC2 a lot of these had been hidden/bonus objectives that encouraged you using your stupidly overpowered abilities to uncover. 3 especially was just like "destroy all these towers" and hooray, you liberated the area.

id providing guidance for the missions, while Avalanche does the grunt/open-world work could be a cool team-up.

This is my beef with the first games as well. A third or maybe even half of the content was closed circuit buggy racing.

open world

:hhh

Technically, isn't Rage 1 open-world? I just started to play it yesterday and it has driving around a "huge" (not sure of the size) map to go do missions in.

It's pretty boring, tbh. Carmack come back to iD and do Doom 4 in fake 3D, plz.

Rage's 'open world' is just a big level select corridor/race track. Well, two, if I remember right. I think there are stunt jumps too, but aside from that all you can do is drive from one load screen to another.

Gameplay trailer looked solid at the very least. So I'll at least keep an eye on it. I mean it could be good, but I just find this whole thing to be a genuine surprise, so I don't know what to think.

Combo of id shooting/mechanics and Avalanche driving looks like absolute bliss.

But, the marketing angle looks like a total misfire from Bethesda, once again.

This looks like more of the Far Cry open world model. SP only, little to no flow to map progression, simple series of selecting objectives, warping to nearest fast travel point, go to objective, shoot enemies that provide no challenge in the head. A simple pathfinding script could mindlessly complete most of these games.

Trying FC5 might've soured me on this style for a while. Will wait to see y'all impressions. I enjoyed Rage 8 years ago.

Are there levels like RAGE1?

I liked the original RAGE because it was like fake open-world, just a hub connecting to cool well designed levels with kickass shooting. If RAGE2 is just like open world shooting I'm gonna pass even when it's $20.

FC5 was at least relatively fun in coop, even though the progression was fucked in that mode.
I can't see myself playing all solo, though.

I liked the original RAGE [despite its flaws] and I liked Avalanche's Mad Max [despite its flaws], RAGE 2 is definitely better than its two predecessors. Got about 3 hours in today and I'm liking it, it's the game version of candy: not filling, but it is fun. Combat is pretty similar to OG RAGE, but with some of the added mobility and aggressive combat style that DOOM 2016 brought to the table. It also gives you a wide variety of abilities to play around with to mix things up [the best so far lets you dash forward instantly with a blast of energy that makes dudes ragdoll through the air]. They kept the "dungeons" from the original, too, so it's not just the standard enemy bases to clear out. The world is kinda standard for these types of games, nothing that we haven't seen before. But at least it doesn't have Ubisoft towers, instead you just naturally find locations by travelling around or by talking to people in town.

So far, I give it 4 DOOM 2016s out of 5.

When you bust into an enemy base, start throwing down your Ranger powers, and everything just all clicks into place to make you into an insane killing machine...it's so good. So of the most "pure fun" gaming moments that I can remember.
