it wouldn't work. there's 11 guys on each side on the field. the types of strategies that would be implemented would bog the fuck down out of the game.

Assimilate is right ( :'( ), without offside attackers would be free to just park around the box. This would force some defenders lower on the pitch and thus encourage more static plays, less cohesive and more stretched teams and just bombing imprecise long balls all over.

Also there's already a neutral zone, offside rule is only in effect past the central line.

Well yeah, that's an argument for why pushing it out for say 10 yards in each direction wouldn't automatically destroy the game.
