Can we stop pretending England has any shot at all? Or anyone from that side of the bracket?

The winner is going to be on the other side of the bracket, and from the looks of it it's a 3 way battle between France, Brazil, and Belgium since Uruguay is all but certain not to have Cavani.

I dunno why you rate belgium when they barely beat japan while sweden actually beat a legit opponent.

Japan played really, really well. I wouldn't undersell Belgium, especially when they came back to win the game after being down two goals with thirty or so minutes left.

Also why undersell the other bracket when on average, they've played pretty damn well too, Assy. I thought I was a Brazil stan but geez you need Neymar's floppy balls out of your mouth.

Saying no team from the other bracket has no shot at all is just dumb. That's not how football at this level works.
Even if Russia somehow makes it (They won't) they are still not on the level where they would have no shot, they're not San Marino.

I'd say any team from the other bracket would still get decent odds from the bookies. Like no worse than 10/4

Sweden is just not good enough, they have a good defensive setup but can't create for shit. Their attackers are trash and their linking play is lackluster. Sweden-Switzerland was probably the worst game I've ever seen in a knockout stage. Both teams were absolutely hapless.

Croatia should make it, but they always managed to disapooint at some point during a tournament.

Btw. Since I am bored and it's way too hot to do anything productive, that's how I see the QF.

Sweden-England
England will win 1:0 for the aforementioned reasons.

Brazil-Belgium
As much as I'd like to see Brazil going home, I don't think Belgium can hold them defensively unless Martinez makes some smart changes (lol).
They have no full backs. They have Meunier playing right back who is more of a winger on the right side and absolutely nobody on the left side. They have to put Vertonghen at left back who doesn't have the pace. Starting Carrasco or Chadli there would be disastrous. Willian would have a field day.
I think Brazil takes it 3:1

Croatia-Russia
Russia's luck has to run out at some point, right?
Croatia wins 2:0

Uruguay-France
France have Kanté, Matuidi and Pogba in the middle of the park who are just to athletic to handle for a mediocre midfield. That should give Mbappe and Griezmann enough space to attack Godin and Gimenez from deeper positions with pace. It also looks like Cavani won't be able to play and he is monumentally important for drawing defenders and creating lanes for Suarez. Not to mention his own ability to finish.
I think France advances 2:1

How does me saying the winner will be between Brazil, France, and Belgium mean i want Neymar's balls in my mouth? Maybe you just want to see Neymar put his balls in my mouth for your own pleasure  :gurl

There's no chance the other side wins because when it comes down to the championship game the lesser team will choke. They'll be too nervous and the only shot any of those teams have is parking the bus and playing tight... the nerves will shatter and they'll concede a goal and from there on it will be over.

Sweden - Switzerland was still better quality than the Colombia - England shitfest though. It was possibly more boring, i couldn't really comment on that, since the personal stakes made sure it wasn't boring for me :)
English scoring stats only look good because they blew up Panama, remove that game and it's the same as Swedens. And England has twice the number of goals conceded.

Sure England could win, because Sweden isn't the best team in the tournament. But i think we're still the favourites to win here.

Exodust, i wasn't really underselling Belgium, they have a good squad. My point was only that Ass counted them as a team that made sure that the other bracket couldn't win, when they haven't really looked any better than those teams.

Nice confidence after Sweden already eliminated Holland in the qualifiers, Italy in the play offs, topped the group with Germany and Mexico and finally beat the Swiss too...

Meanwhile Englands confidence rests on beating Panama and Tunisia

Brazil - Belgium

Brazil has the edge, but the odds are pretty even. Maybe playing without Lukaku and with Mertens up top could help, get Brazil on a counter.

Croatia - Russia

Croatia wasnt good against Denmark, but Russia hasnt been goid either so I will give the nod to Croatia. Russia could sneak past again though helped by the home crowd.

Uruguay - France

France are clear favourites esp if Cavani is not there.  Uruguay could make it very very tough though if they keep it tight and dont venture out too much.

England - Sweden

Depends on how good Sweden can defend, England has zero creativity (english playmakers? Whodat) so no idea how they will win in regular time unless they get lucky. Score could balloon though if Sweden crumbles and has to go for it. With Rashford, Lindgaard, Sterling,Vardy they could sting if Sweden stretches.

First priority would be for Brazil to lose.

Second, France to win it all. I will settle for Belgium. A continental team shitting on england would be euphoric for non football reasons.

France had probably the most impressive showing at the cup against argentina.  Belgium has shown that it can overcome bad odds and has yet to lose. Brazil looked kind of weak all tournament outside of 20 minutes.

He started for Barcelona.

Anyways, i'm very curious to see what Tite's game plan will be. Will he keep Gabriel Jesus AGAIN? I mean, i get that he does a lot of running, and marks well, but he's a fucking number 9. I'm still convinced Firmino should start. I'd be surprised if Danilo, if fully healthy, doesn't start because Fagner got exposed last game and Marcelo is back so that's good. The team seems to be getting stronger by the game, so i think they take this

2-0

Brazil will enter the match with the lineup of Alisson at goalkeeper; Fagner, Thiago Silva, Miranda and Marcelo in defence; Fernandinho, Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho in midfield; and Willian, Neymar and Gabriel Jesus in attack.

Fuck, Danilo out for the tournament after being ok to practice at full capacity he rips his ankle apart. Now Brasil is stuck with Fagner   :noah

And the fucking coach is once again going with Gabriel Jesus instead of Firmino  :mindblown

yeah this team may get knocked out by Belgium
