Kinda random topic. For last 10 years or so I’ve been putting together my wedding playlist for someday. Like I add a song here and there. Mostly just stuff from normal bands, but there’s some hardcore nerd shit I wanna try to fit in like:

Kom Susser Todd
Snake Eater
Fly me to the Moon
Something from Persona 3/4/5, not sure which. Maybe Rivers in the Desert. P5 songs are a lot less animu and more jazzy
Theme of Laura - Silent Hill 2
Small of two pieces from Xenogears
FFV’s Battle on the Big Bridge or at least FFXV’s version of Stand by Me with the crystal theme
KH1’s Hikari - Ochestra ver
Some j-rock stuff like something FLCL era from The Pillows and a Susumu Hirasawa track
Spirited Away piano theme song
Chungking Express main theme + California Dreaming

What kind of nerdy tracks did you play at your wedding? Or do you want to play at your wedding someday?

I designed our playlist to help our guests get wrecked and start tearing up the dance floor. I mean, I slipped some Janis Joplin and Miles Davis in there here ‘n’ there, but I mostly used songs that I know lift the energy in the average room, regardless of how much I liked them.

You don’t want your guests looking up at the speakers all puzzled and groaning at each other. You want them singing along with glasses held high, or throwing down moves that they really shouldn’t.

If I ever get married, and the wife is OK with it, I wanna play a bunch of 90's-2000's house and trance anthems at my wedding:

Kiesza - Hideaway
Stardust - The Music Sounds Better With You
Sasha - Xpander
Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel
Ferry Corsten - Fire
Daft Punk - One More Time
Pryda - Pjanoo
Faithless - Insomnia
Afro Medusa - Pasilda
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes
etc.

Oh, that’s cute — you think you’ll have any say whatsoever in how your wedding is going to play out.

We had 3 ceremonies and I made almost no decisions in any of them except talking my wife into letting everyone take their shoes and socks off because we got married on a beach once. And even then, she only relented because all her bridesmaids and groomsmen were begging her to let them do it.

Bebs, I'm just gonna say that if you find someone who will happily allow you to play that shit at your wedding, she's a keeper.

I just wanted to reference Chains of Mephistopheles (for any reason) and then one of the related images was Breeding Pit and I was like "okay, I think we're getting somewhere".

That one dude convinced his wife to marry him in a Taco Bell, anything is possible, bless up.

Why do I feel like playing Magic now

I designed our playlist to help our guests get wrecked and start tearing up the dance floor. I mean, I slipped some Janis Joplin and Miles Davis in there here ‘n’ there, but I mostly used songs that I know lift the energy in the average room, regardless of how much I liked them.

You don’t want your guests looking up at the speakers all puzzled and groaning at each other. You want them singing along with glasses held high, or throwing down moves that they really shouldn’t.

Me and my wife spent maybe 10 hours making playlists, then people got drunk and just played whatever and that was perfect.

We didn't even bother coming up with a playlist and just let the DJ play whatever. We both have... eh... interesting taste in music. Mine would have been a bunch of jazz and songs from The Divine Comedy. Her half would have been a bunch of religious hymns and christian rock ballads.

Yeah. We'll just go with the chicken dance, thanks.

We had a couple K-Pop jams at ours that she picked out. Everyone loved that Psy song. But pretty much we only specified a few songs (Ignition Remix is a requirement, folks) and then just gave the DJ some genres and timeframes and he did the rest. It's a lot easier that way, tbh.

My friend didn't want to pay for a DJ so him and his wife asked me to play whatever I wanted to. So I dropped a booty shaking house and techno set... some people were so confused hearing Maceo Plex/Shiba San/Claude Vonstroke instead of the Billy Joel/Journey/Sinatra you usually have at your typical LI wedding but the bride and groom loved it, and surprisingly the bride's parents, too. (They told me they liked electronic music and actually saw Tycho in concert).
