Agony
« on: June 06, 2018, 03:33:44 AM »

Agony is a first-person, survival horror set in ResetERAhell. You will begin your journey as a tormented soul within the depths of hell without any memories about your past.

This looks like a nice game.

WHAT IS THIS

HOW WOULD YOU EVEN COME UP WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

NOT VERY NICE

IS THIS BOBBERTS?

TITS OR GTFO

HOLY SHIT THIS WEAPON IS LITERALLY MESSOFANEGO'S FACE

SHE SEEMS NICE

JESUS CHRIST THIS BOSS IS HIDEOUS

ALSO YOU CAN WEAPONIZE ETOILET'S BORE FORUM POSTS

...what's not to love?

Oh.  :exxy

Despite Hell’s prominence in games, it’s woefully underexplored. Hell is such a conceptually fascinating idea, especially when you go beyond the pools of blood and start trying to imagine the logistics and politics of such a place, and with Agony wanting to spend its hours taking a deeper dive into the place, I was curious. Clive Barker’s The Scarlet Gospels, while a disappointing final chapter for the monster known as Pinhead, spent much of its time exploring the mundane pettiness involved in running Hell as an institution. These are not the details Agony is concerned with. It’s more interested in coming across as badass
will wait for Hell Logistics Simulator 2018

wanting to see the whole game through, I eventually resorted to putting a YouTube walkthrough of the game on another monitor, to ensure I wouldn’t get stuck again

The only reason I clocked more than five hours was to reject any notion I hadn’t given the game its due.

Quote
Each time I found a man—human, demon, in-between—I would look to see if the game was applying the same aggressive exploitation to their sexual parts, and it was never the case. You can find a dick, but it’s just that: a penis

Quote
The game’s camera later pans down, as if emulating a PornHub video

Quote
The game’s Steam page makes no mention of almost anything I’ve mentioned here. Instead, it focuses on the game’s story of a “tormented soul within the depths of hell, without any memories about your past,” how you’ll be able to use a “special ability” to possess demons, the kinds of “hostile environment” players will have to survive in, and the game’s inclusion of both a story mode and an “open challenge system” that randomly generates levels, complete with high scores.

Perhaps the scariest interpretation is the developers don’t think any of this is a problem.

Quote
Rather than coding its ideology in metaphor or subtext, it’s danced right in front of you. Agony knows exactly what it’s saying.

great review, I learned some important details about Porn Hub aficionado Patrick who plays games while watching complete walkthroughs, not so many about the actual game itself but that's not important right now or ever

Is the game actually good? Don't really care about Waypoint or RE. I'm down for some death metal aesthetic.

It's a solid 6. 8 if you really like Iron Maiden album covers.

it's got like a 40 MetaCritic score and even the user scores are at 5/10

from a casual glance at those and the steam reviews it seems like the main problem outside of people complaining about it being censored are that it's short and pretty buggy

Not something I would have cared about, but Patrick Klepek's glowing review makes me want to check it out when it's on the cheap.

I watched some videos, and the gameplay looks pretty bad tbh. Maybe worth muddling through for some bloodsoaked demon tiddies, but I dunno.

It'll show it up in some indie bundle in a month or two for $5 [or less], so I'll check it out then.

The art looks interesting, might watch on the internet or actually buy it if it sells for like 5$ or so.

Say what you want about the execution but it's interesting about Hell being formed as some murky Freudian sexual nightmare. Though Dante's Inferno did do that before in a better way(?). No idea if the game makers went for that direction instead of just being edgy, though.

Isn't this the game they advertised as the H.R. Giger inspired horror game. Man, who'd expect genitals in one of those.

No, that's the other five-letter noun horror game:

Sounds like the opening of Assassin's Creed 2.

I watched the deleted scenes and final boss fight on Youtube. Looks like something RLM would watch on a typical episode of Best of the Worst and Rich Evans would go "OH MYYYYYY GAHHHHWWWWWDDDDDD!", and then he'd mispronounce a word and everyone would laugh and then they'd cut to the next movie.
