Also, what are they teaching da youf in school? I played a match where I camped rocket lawn chair wire to wire and got 2 Quad Damages. I'm too old to be topping the charts in Quake.

on Steam? it was f2p on there for its first year after they had to drop the browser version

they had some weird subscription system for a while but it was never required for the main Q3A modes if you didn't care about your character

man this is so fun so far. people absolutely don't remember how to play twitch shooters. the rocket launcher feels really good. game feels kinda like a mix of UT and Q3 arena, hope they balance out some of the weapons though cuz some feel truly useless

I played it a bit when the beta came out and i was really turned off by it but it feels like a real game now, albeit dumbed down from q3. the supers thing seems like it could be a bitch to balance

It has been/is. As far as weapons go I think it's mostly fine, some are just way more situational than others. Like yes why wouldn't you be using one of the holy trinity if you had them (RG, LG, RL) but the others have their place/use. Nailgun for instance can completley shred in close range (it's something like 20 dmg a shot...it might have the highest potential dps iirc). Super shotgun used to be better though I remember doing really well with it in an older beta and I think they increased the time between shots.

my only real complaints are the super shotgun and the machine gun (the one you pick up, not the default) feel underwhelming. I get what you mean about the weapons being situational but the machine gun in particular doesn't really feel like there's a situation where it's appropriate. the shotgun just feels like it needs a tiny bit more range, but my time with DOOM might be coloring my opinion here a bit.

really enjoying it though. not sure if I'll dive in quite yet but I can see myself paying for it down the line when I have less games in rotation. I am admittedly a sucker for those daily logins though so it might come sooner than later

The free trial has boosted their numbers on Steam quite a bit [from about 1,500 peak concurrent players to 15,000]. Dunno if that's enough to keep it going long-term, if it keeps going like that, or if it can bring in more people.

the most positive sign to me is a bunch of ppl who streamed this got a significant boost in numbers from it. Content creators on yt as well. So I'm hoping that means a decent chunk of that 14k will stay longterm.

Never saw this giveaway coming but that def. makes me feel like we'll see the full f2p release at quake con this year.

It depends on how they do the F2P. IMO the people chosen (2) for this giveaway aren't the best ones (one should be Doomguy and the other Visor). And for us folks that want the Q3A mode, they need to get that out pronto.

I mean that's great and all. But when (and that depends on if they are fucking stupid) they shut down the free-to-play on Steam, it's going to have retain the players. That's where you should be worrying more than anything.

If it holds the players: Great. Beth's promotion worked. But if it doesn't a month later, it's not a success.

Basically, let's not celebrate one arena shooter being "successful" just yet until at least the end of August.

Numbers feel down already; couldn't get into a TDM match tonight and had to slum it in plain ol' DM.

On the plus side I got the Quake 1 rocket launcher skin. I don't think I've ever been so excited for something in my life.

that really doesn't apply since the railgun is about distance and you need to be so close with the shotgun to do damage that you basically can't miss
