I have a plastic on a pinball game that melted and I need some assistance reconstructing it. I am going to make a waterslide decal and put it on a piece of PETG plastic but the art would be outside of my abilities. I'd pay for the work obviously.

It's the left 6 inches of this piece. I'd make a good quality scan of it, just wanted to show what I was working with.

What type of file would you need the final design to be saved as?

Also, do you happen to know if the colors are process (CMYK) or spot (e.g. Pantone)?

As long as it is the right size it doesn't matter on format, but png would be fine.

I don't have any color details because this piece is unobtanium so the best I could offer is to scan. Only thing I know for sure is that it is silkscreened.

My idea is to 300 DPI scan the side that isn't warped to get the crowd image. The measurements of the warped area is basically 6 inches by 1 13/16 inches. So the final piece should be 6 x 1 13/16, with a black border, and a clear window with the word GOAL in a block font inside the window. Yellow and red border on the clear window, and crowd fill for the rest. I'd have to get better measurements for the location of the clear part.

I print that on white waterslide decal, put it onto PETG, And then I can cut the warped piece off the large piece in the picture. Now I have two pieces that I can put onto the game, the good right side, and the new left side.  I'll post a better picture of the plastic on the game to see if it makes more sense.

I've done this with playfield art and simpler plastics but I have poor photoshop skills. Also I'm running version 7.

see how it goes on the back board? If I cut the left side off and put a replacement on, it would be relatively natural, especially if the crowd is somewhat the same.

I think I could work with that.

I may need to save it as a transparent TIFF instead of a PNG though because PNGs (I’m pretty certain) can only utilize RGB colors. Thus, the colors would seem more mismatched than usual.

I’m about to go to bed but feel free to send me that 300 dpi scan via a google drive/dropbox/etc. link when you get a chance.

It'll be tomorrow, and I'll scan as much as I can to give a good idea on colors and crowd fill. Thanks!

Ok, I just did a scan at work which unfortunately can only scan jpg, but I did it at 600 which may help compensate. I don't know what the compression looks like. I can also scan to PNG with my open flatbed at home but it won't be a single piece since it can only do 11" max.

Is that usable at all?

Yes, this is usable and 600 dpi is even better. Also, a jpg is fine for me to start with.

Sometime this weekend I'll get started on it.

What's the max width and height of the "ideal/non-warped" striker panel? Just want to make sure I have it sized properly on my end.

Why don't you just replace the whole thing? Instead of worrying about cutting and colour mismatches and shit.

Also, Atra, pls sneak in a few cartoony english players crying. Like where's Waldo sort of thing. Thx.

Well, it's hard to create a 14" piece of plastic with waterslide decals without making a mess. A 6" I can do. I don't have any local shops that would screen it, either, and I don't have the original artwork to create it *from*.

The finished plastic itself is unobtainable from Stern (or anywhere else so far).
