Bore, I was going to just vote for Shri Thanedar but I realized that I was standing in the way of democracy by not offering you my vote to cast first.

Some data from actual pollster Bernie Porn (REALLY THAT'S HIS NAME):
Quote
Whitmer is doing better among men, where she has 53 percent support, than among women, where her support is 45 percent.
El-Sayed is winning among women between the ages of 18 and 49, where he has 40 percent support, compared to 28 percent for Whitmer.
Thanedar is doing well in Detroit and winning the black vote, with 37 percent support, compared to 29 percent for Whitmer.

Key endorsements:
Quote
Gretchen Whitmer: Chelsea Handler
Abdul El-Sayed: Piper Perabo, Ben Affleck, Michael Moore
Disclosure: I did not know about the Handler endorsement until 10 seconds ago, my boo in the poll was there before I knew this.

Whitmer is the DNC/AFL-CIO/etc. candidate, El-Sayed is the Bernie/Ocasio-Cortez/Our Revolution candidate.

Now I know what some of you may be asking. "Who gives a fuck? "But benji, I thought you didn't vote?" And that's right! In the general election. But after my successful vote for Rocky "Roque" De La Fuentes in the 2016 Presidential Primaries, and their attempts at shaming me into voting in 2014, I feel it's important to continue voting in the Democratic primaries and the Democratic primaries only. So that when they check the records they find a voter who votes consistently in the Democratic primaries but then fails to vote in the general election. I also feel that my 2016 vote may have been dismissed as merely a "Berniebro" which is why they failed to send me garbage at all during 2016 and although we can chalk some of that up to Hillary's failed campaign, I would not want to be lumped in with the dangerous brogressives. I would like them to know this is about more than just Bernie, it's about being annoying in a very specific manner that only a handful of people will recognize.

I WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SELL THIS VOTE, but I will completely accept gifts alongside advice and "promise" to adhere to it.

There is no Mupepe option because Michigan does not count write-ins that are not registered candidates as actual votes. I will write Mupepe in however for State Representative as that nomination race is not contested. This will cause someone to have to read the ballot and then check if there is a Mupepe registered for the race. Hooray!

I hope that we will also see a Mupepe vote in 2020. :heart

Is Dearborn the only Democratic city in Michigan or something?

Is Dearborn the only Democratic city in Michigan or something?
No, all the cities are pretty much. Trump did way better in Dearborn than Detroit proper for example. Detroit went 95-3 Clinton. The rest of Wayne County (which includes Dearborn and the other Detroit suburbs) went 53-41 Clinton. Other than Detroit, Trump did well enough in the cities (suburbs) that he was able to take the state. Similar map to Snyder. If you can lose the cities' counties 55-40 or do even better instead of 65-35, or worse, you can usually take the state. Even though he got blown the fuck out in Detroit, it wasn't enough total votes to catch up.

For comparison in 2014, Snyder lost Detroit 92-7, and nearly won the rest of Wayne County which was 50-48. They don't break it down in 2010, but he lost all of Wayne County only 60-40 so I have to assume Snyder won the rest of Wayne County in 2010 and the margin was Detroit. In 2016 and 2014 overall, Trump lost Wayne County 66-29 and Snyder lost 63-35 so you can see Detroit is roughly half of it.

They generally draw the districts to cut off slices of the cities or cut up the cities to dilute the D vote in a bunch of suburb and rural R ones. And then maybe leave a Democratic stronghold central district for the State House and State Senate. Detroit's really the only place you can't do that. Though someday they'll try if the population distribution works out, right next door is the most R vote county in the state. And there's another decent one nearby that could be used if you get creative.

White flight. :american

Trump only won Michigan by 10k votes though. Interestingly, Hillary turned out 80k fewer votes in Wayne County (Detroit) than Obama did. That was the election right there...

I'm in Washtenaw County, which is liberal land too. Hillary and Obama won with around 67% of the vote here. Turnout was a bit higher here in 2016 than in 2012, but not enough to surpasses the loss of votes in Wayne. Friend of mine told me early on election day that he thought Clinton was going to lose because his polling station in Detroit was virtually empty that morning; it was full in 2012 and 2008.

In terms of the candidates...each time I've voted for a woman it turned out to be a disaster (Granholm, Clinton) so I think I'll go with a man.  :doge
