Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country
« on: September 21, 2018, 10:58:26 PM »
UPS came through with my delivery today despite it coming a flood. I'm about an hour in and I'm really loving it: it's XC2 but better in just about every way. Combat is more involved [since you can switch between Driver and Blade, and between different Blades, on the fly], graphics are really really good, music is wonderful, the "world caught up in war" story feels like it's quicker to get started, and the characters are more interesting [in part because they're older]. Dunno about the total length of the game, but even if it's only about 20 hours that would work out fine with me.

Pretty much a no-brainer if you loved XC2, or thought XC2 was okay but could have better.

Does it still have the shitty QOL system for getting new blades?

I believe that they took out the gatcha system entirely.

The battle theme sure is nice.

I hated XB2. I picked his up. I hope a streamlined smaller XB2 is better. The forced side quest stuff sounds lame, but since the game is short I doubt it will be a problem.

Did anyone play this expansion? I'm getting back to my rpg backlog now and I never finished XB2 and was mid-final dungeon. So will sit down and clear it this week hopefully, but what's the verdict on Torna? Is it great and I should jump right in after, or is it more tedious stuff so I should leave it in the backlog for another bunch of months/years and play it someday?

I liked XB2 for like the middle fwiw, after the battle system/gameplay systems opened up and before it got super tedious in the last 1/3rd with all the field checks and the grind grind grind to unlock skill grids for blades to get their unique skills and their unique sidequests. Only reason I never finished it was the final dungeon is such a huge jump in stats my party was extremely underleveled because I skipped most of the zzz sidequests throughout the game and just focused on exploring and the main story.

I have played some of it. I have yet to finish it. It's more XB2 though I do like the lack of the core crystal stuff.

I think it's slightly better than XB2 in most ways, I especially liked the cast of characters.

Its "better" than XB2 but I dont think its a fair comparison. XB2 is huge compared to Torna. Torna is DLC, while also sold separately (Torna comes with a Season Pass code for XB2)

There are occasional "roadblocks" the game puts on you in that you are forced to do sidequests and unlock skills to progress or finish quests. But I do not think its "grindy" at all.

If you like XB2, you will enjoy Torna.
