Wow, I love the new install setup screen. Its so user friendly :-[

Reminds me of Fedora in some ways...awesome and it seems as though it loaded some default SATA drivers correctly. Thats just sexy.

ARRRRRRRRR MATEY

I don't want to pirate Vista. I have a feeling that by the time the next set of updates come in, it'll already know the serial is pirated and lock down every feature of the OS with the exception of accessing my own files.

:p

It hasn't prompted me to do anything as of yet, though, I'm not holding my breath.

The cracks out there are supposed to trick Vista into extending the Trial time but we'll see what happens. I've got two computers on hand so if this one fucksup, I've got the other one to fall back on. So I'm not too worried in this sense.

But it looks fucken PRETTY and the OSX like fade in fade out effect is so hawt. Its not as jarring, when windows pop up and stuff like it is in XP. Not that it matters in terms of functionality, its just a nice touch though.

I'm currently looking for Sound driver :-/ . This should be fun. I think my Turtle Beach card is not going to be used for a while due to lack of driver support from TB. I think I may be able to fall back on my Mobo Sound...hopefully.

Does it add more space to your computer?

If I eventually bought the System Builder Home Premium... am I ripping myself off? It says one machine only, but they make it seem like that same machine, PERIOD. Meaning, if I build a new system and stop using the other one (or install, say, Win2K on it instead), will I still not be able to use it? It shouldn't matter as long as it's not on more than one machine, right?

Not that I know of

The licensing for Vista is really crazy and much tighter than XP. It sounds like you can install it on that one PC and that PC only (however times you like) but installing it on other PCs besides that one is a NO NO. Not sure what the reprecusions are, or if it will just lock you out on the new PC. I think you have to call into MS and tell them your resinstalling on to a new PC or something.

I would ask EGM over on GAF, or maybe Drinky may know? I'm kinda parroting what I've seen EGM respond with.

yes, you can run Vista with a 6100. You won't be running games well -- well, they'll still run as poorly as they do on XP cuz the 6100 is a giant steaming pool of Texas-brand ass -- but Aero will run fine.

and you motherfuckers best not be piratin' Vista. if I find you are...

Drinky is gonna call the MS police!

btw Drinky, please inform: Can I use Home Premium on another machine as long as it's not running on two machines? I wouldn't keep it installed on the old machine.

So if I buy and install it on this machine, then build a new one, but get rid of Vista on this one, and put that copy/serial on the new one... is this permitted?

yes, you can install it on a sequence of up to three different pc configurations as long as you remove the old ones first. they relaxed the eula some time ago.

Ok.

Also what will srsly happen to pirates like BT?!   :o :o :o

And is the sequence of three PC configurations based on the hardware ID? Or is it really touchy -- for example if I put in a new video card, upgrade the memory, etc. does that count as a new configuration?

I need to find a graphics card for like $100 or so. The games I play religiously (Wolfenstein ET, WOW) run fine but I'd like more power. With WoW I notice that I lag like shit whenever I enter a huge city like Ironforge or Stormwind. Usually the lag goes away after a couple minutes, but at night it lags longer.

Other than that it runs fine. The only major major lag I experience occurs around 1:30am when I'm assuming Blizzard starts updating the servers.

How much RAM you got, PD?  Big city lag is more about RAM than GPU.

Sound Driver support has been probably the biggest issue for me, but Creative finally got their act together this past release. Everything else has been peachy on my rig, and I do quite a bit on it.

Looking at the sticker on my CPU it says I have a 200GB harddrive. And checking the System option in my control panel it says I have 384 MB RAM, 2.21GHz

Is that the amount the computer came with or how much I have right now?

That's how much it has now.  Big town lag generally only goes away once you have a gig.

That's the reading after I got rid of Limewire a few minutes ago. I haven't been using it so I figured what the hell.

Previously I had three huge ass "fun" things on my computer: Limewire, Wolfenstein ET, and WoW. Maybe things will run better now

Yeah the jump from 1-2 gigs improved my WoW experience by stupid amounts.

Thats the issue I've run into at the moment

Vista has been perfect about picking up various drivers but its the Sound Drivers that are being bitchy

I've got a Turtle Beach card and OnBoard sound. The Turtle Beach card can use C-Media Drivers (and they do have Vista 64 Bit Drivers) but it keeps failing on me.

I start up the Installtion app and it brings me to the C-Media install process. It tells me it fails right when the loading/install bar appears.

I've tried running it as an admin and stuff, doesn't wanna take.

You can bypass signing protection by pressing F8 just as windows loads. If you do it right a menu should pop up with the option to proceed without signing protection.

That being said you should probably just reinstall XP SP2 and wait for retail Vista if this isnt a legit RTM release. MS has stepped up efforts to find illegal users big time this OS release.

What, is it gonna be like people getting busted by the MPAA? Or are they just going to forcefully disable the OS?

Im actually not quite sure, I just find it better to stick to the safer side of the street when it concerns the murkey legal issues of software piracy.
