Send it back and get a ps4.

I say this as someone who isn’t even a big fan of ps4 or this generation.

If you're keen on those scarier/horror-esque titles, I'd skip that silly cowboy game for now and hit up Witcher 3 pronto.  Best of both worlds, and possibly the finest game this gen yet.

If you haven't bought anything in years would honestly recommend gamepass.

Forza Horizon 4 is great if you have even a passing interest in driving games. Very relaxed and casual controls, fun races, and it looks gorgeous

Or what Akala said, get Gamepass. It's relatively cheap ($10 a month), you get all the first party Xbone releases day one, and you get older Xbone/360/OG Xbox games to play on demand. If you got your Xbone new you probably have a code to get a free month anyway.

I would second (or third) witchah 3 and Nier Automata.

Those are both some of the best games I’ve played in the last few years.

I’m enjoying read dead 2, but would put both up against it for different reasons.

Basically since the current console generation launched. Haven't touched any AAA stuff on PS4/Bone, so really looking for the cream of the crop here

Ok so Witcher 3 is awesome? I've played the second one a bit but it never grabbed me.

Damn how could I forget about Nier? I played the shit out of the first game and farmed shitty items for hours so I could get the 1000/1000. Incredible game and I hear Automata is better? Platinum Games can do no wrong imo

Witcher 3 is way better than 2. I couldn’t finish 2 because I thought the mechanics were bad.

3 still has semi mediocre combat, but it’s serviceable and way better than in 2.

Personally I just set it down to the easiest level and plowed through it, because the story and how it is told is really the strength

Unfortunately I’ve never played the first Nier or any of the drakengard games, but Nier Automata has 1) a crazy story that will surprise you and make you think and 2) good platinum (if somewhat simplified from their best) gameplay.

If you like Platinum, it might be worth it to track down their transformers game. I really liked it, even though it basically has combat that is a ripoff of Bayonetta, it scratches an itch for fans of 80s Transformers. It has like 4 or 5 playable characters that at least 3 or so are meaningfully different and a pseudo Diablo loot system. It’s better than it deserves to be for something clearly made on a budget.

Nier: Automata

Although that's like skipping the kiddy pool and jumping straight into a shark tank with no underwear.
There's a whole bunch of games you can get for cheap that are great like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, DOOM, Rise of the Tomb Raider etc. .

What sort of genres do you like?

Ys Origin came out on Xbone so definitely that. Cuphead, Ori, are some console exclusives that are must plays. And of course Nier Automata.

I like action games, AAA third person dreck, FPS, turn based strategy, ball-busting platformers. Cuphead is probably right up my alley.

I'll echo the love for Neir: Automata, it's a legitimately great game. The gameplay's better than usual for a Yoko Taro game [thanks to Platinum Games, I suspect] and the story's just fantastic.

I'll 3rd or 4th that... Nier: Automata was an experience I won't forget anytime soon.  Easily one of the top 5 games this gen, imho.

That world map though...  being about 10,000 years in the future, I'd think that gps technology would be a bit more advanced... unless there was a reason for it being that way... can't remember, tbh.

It’s definitely a game that is better than the sum of its parts.

It’s got a lot of average’ish or low budget seeming elements, but it’s tied together in such an engrossing way that it doesn’t matter.

The first RDR.

Scenester and I used to ride out and regulate on the regular in the original RDR. He played a bit more than I did, and IIRC even gold-weaponed every single weapon in the game. I think that was 50 headshots to make it gold? Or 100?

It was 100 headshots I think. Never did get golden explosive rifle as it was difficult to obtain in its respective game modes. The golden tomahawk was very baller

Yeah, but headshots in that one map that was like "Hide-n-Seek with Axes" made headshots pretty standard.

Man you just reminded that I did. Used to do hardcore aiming modes with a forum group. Grab the bag on that one small mexican map was the cheese secret. I'd just camp the chest that had it instead of playing the objective  :lol

Ryse is better than the critics said it was.

It's a fun but short ride of bashing in skulls with great graphics.
Not every game needs an open world with 3000 sidequests and 300 pieces of equipment to collect.

Sometimes you just want to unload and kill things and Ryse is perfect for that.

Ryse is fine if it’s gamepass. I wouldn’t pay cash money for it though.

Halo 5 and gears are both fun if you can find someone to co op them with you, but IMO both are weaker than their 360 versions.

Halo 5 just took some missteps in the campaign, and gears 4 just feels sort of low budget.
