I bought most of my black friday stuff game wise already via best buy early access and MS sale. I don't need any more games for a while but I'll probably still keep an eye on amazon cause some people have real problems.

Am really only looking out for PC main components, need to make up my mind today as to wtf I want.

I think the 5 series are going on steep discount because the new 6 series is a really big improvement picture quality wise.

my current ssd is 250gb and cost about the same amount when i got it, so 1TB is a good upgrade for me

the TCL 5 series works well with my X1X and supports all the fancy picture features, but I've read the 4 series (amazon link) can have hdr compatibility issues. just a heads up if you're getting the cheaper model. also there's an xfinity app for Roku so I can watch WWE/sports junk without a cable box now

Buy the 1TB, but now that I’m doing it split PC/console I’m not as sure.

But it would probably solve the annoyance that I have playing Fortnite with my kid that the Xbox loads in faster than my pc.

Is that the the same as the P series? If so, that's an awesome price and awesome TV. If S is different though...may been too dim.

EDIT: It's different. Something to keep in mind for anyone interested in HDR. Gotta say however that if you don't really give a shit, they appear to be the same otherwise (might be a bit dimmer) and for watching stuff and playing games, it's fantastic. I wasn't even that impressed with HDR on the P series model I got.

not sure tbh. i did some googling before and got some results that said S series was completely unwatchable and some that said there was no difference, because the internet kinda goes that way. so i can only speak to how it looks in my living room and i'm pretty impressed with how nice it is for the price. i've only played one proper hdr game (forza horizon 4) and its pretty damn good looking.

My answer to that is for that price...who gives a shit.

I probably still need to do more screen adjusting, but I was pretty unimpressed with HDR on PS4. It just made the games look duller...I prefer a warmer, more saturated look than a sterile "real" color scheme. Ended up changing the settings to mimic how PS4 games look with HDR off, lol. Might even just disable it entirely. But I think that's more just the PS4 and its 'fake' 4K. PC games looked so good at actual 4K when I tried that.

Exactly my thought. It's $350. not $1500 so I can live with it not being The Best Picture Ever(tm).

Depending on the game it could be poor HDR implementation, that's what RDR2 and Nier have with their HDR. Both of those look super dull with HDR on and amazing with it off. Forza was really eye-catching and had some amazingly bright colors though, looked fantastic.

Don't think it's this since even just going to PS4 menu screen looked more dull and washed out with HDR on. I want to say I tried some Roku-related 4K (HDR?) stuff and it looked way better to me, so it's something Playstation-related. Even if I disabled HDR on the PS4 I'd still be plenty happy with the TV since it's got a great picture and input lag is super low. But I did get this because it was touted as being the best 'budget' $600 HDR+Dolby Vision TV you could get last year...and HDR to me is just kind of "meh." Whenever our living room TV goes, I'm going to move this set in there and probably go back to using a monitor for console gaming instead TBH.

There's really only three 55" 4k TCLs to choose from; some of the other models aren't sold anymore despite being newer than 2017's S405.

From best to worst.

1. TCL R617/R615 55": $600 @ Best Buy

2. TCL S517/S515 55": $400 @ Best Buy

3. TCL S405 55": $350 @ Amazon/Best Buy

The 6 series (the R6 one) has been getting pretty rave reviews for its picture quality. People are saying it rivals much more expensive TVs. I will probably buy one in the future for gaming (2019 Black Friday :-))

Yeah, the one I got was listed as the best TV in general on some sites last year, with reviews saying that it was equal to TVs that cost 3-4 times as much. It used to be The Wirecutter's pick for best TV, but they've bumped it off the list and are putting the 2018 Vizio P-Series F1 as the best pick. It's on sale right now for $650. I like having Roku built-in however so I'd probably still go for a TCL if I were in the market for a new TV.

-Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 (PS3) for $23 new off eBay with that 15% coupon deal today.

-A couple of t-shirts on sale. Yay and stuff.

Almost bought OnRush for $20 but then remembered that the demo wasn't that great, so why bother.

I liked Setsuna but the setting kinda wears thin after a while. Haven't played Lost Sphear yet. Romancing SaGa 2 as a downloadable is another option if you can put up with Kawazu fuckery, and a port of Phantasy Star with some additional features like automapping is coming soon.

It saddens me to see the latest Tomb Raider at 29 or so already but it makes me happy it's climbing up the charts fast because people discover just how good it is.

Anyway, my Black Friday has been pretty uneventful. I did get Final Fantasy XIII and Mass Effect Andromeda for 'buy them now or never bother' prices on XBL. As well as GamePass for 1 euro.
Was holding out for a good deal on Pokemon or Mario Party but neither surfaced. Still looking at Dragonball Fighter Z, Injustice 2 and some other deals that'll be there until monday.
