Trouble with that bread joke one is that breadboxes are pretty much just archaic, maybe regional.  There are more lawful good people in an average D&D society than who have ever heard of or considered owning a breadbox.

In junior high I had an English teacher who would start every class by asking us to solve a riddle written on the whiteboard. During Christmas these riddles took on a yuletide character (this was in the time before the Lich Max Horkheimer--our undying lord--returned and declared war on the holiday).

One day that season we came to class and found that that day's riddle was simply the English alphabet without the letter L. After taking attendance our teacher excused themselves and told us to work on the riddle quietly, which was guidance we promptly discarded once we thought they were out of earshot. During our dialectic one person kept shouting, "There's no L!" as if this was evidence we had ignored during our deliberations. They never used this salient observation to construct a solution to the riddle or anything, but I suppose it's the thought that counts.

When our teacher returned to the classroom they asked us if we had solved the riddle. After several proffered solutions of varying degrees of absurdity our teacher wrote, "N O Ë L," on the whiteboard, then pointed at the person who had constantly been shouting, "There's no L!"

Ironically enough, seeing that meme like a year ago I was like, shit I like Paladins so I must need a breadbox.  Then I looked into them and realized they don't really have much purpose unless you're buying your bread without any kind of packaging - possible, but not common.
