Let me break it down for you all.

Fact 1: everybody I know uses tumblr for porn
Simple math: they are going to lose 100% of their users.

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/05/pornhub-wants-to-buy-tumblr-and-restore-site-to-former-porn-filled-glory/

I could see this happening. PornHub as a company is pretty sleazy (SHOCKING, I know) but gets a pass from the tech crowd cause they're so woke.

I'm sure there's a contingent out there who believes porn-less Tumblr is better (hey, prohibition had its true believers too), so I'm interested in seeing that group fight a culture war with the wave of returning NSFW blogs. Should be fun.

Either way, I'd be surprised if traffic ever returned to what it was.

It's hard to show love on twitter because if you don't want to make an alt account ppl really frown on your likes being filled with big anime tiddies or ppl hanging upside down or some weird venom like creature spit sucking down on someones throat

I find the bookmark feature of the mobile app helpful at concealing what I would otherwise like if likes didn't show up on other people's timelines.

data is worth a lot. and it has a huge name.

if the 3 million thing is true, whoa. seems like a solid bet. the issue with it more seems verizons management than the platform is inherently worthless.

So it was already downsliding (but not as fast) pre-porn ban. Tumblr as a brand already folding like a house of cards?

For their part, Verizon probably immediately regretted the Yahoo purchase: https://gizmodo.com/verizon-probably-really-regrets-buying-yahoo-and-aol-1831033242

Quote
According to CNN, Verizon previously claimed that Oath’s brand value including a goodwill valuation (and not assets) was $4.8 billion.

...Verizon’s disclosure lowered that to $200 million, reducing Oath’s value by half when $5 billion in remaining assets are accounted for.

But lest you feel bad for the big V:

Quote
Advertising is key to Verizon’s plans for Oath. Since Verizon is a home Internet provider and the largest wireless carrier in the US, its access to Internet subscribers’ browsing histories could help boost the Yahoo/AOL advertising business. The Republican-led Congress and President Donald Trump recently wiped out rules that would have made it harder for ISPs to use their customers’ browsing history to serve personalized advertising.

So in a way everything kinda worked out for once. Verizon takes a bath on a stupid acquisition, a revenue model built around creepily tracking people
on an ISP-level is indicted, Tumblr gets possibly the best steward they could have asked for, and Yahoo continues being a joke in the footnote of history.

Unless you were really into Tumblr. Then you kinda got fucked over, but I would have been expecting that since 2013 anyways...

Really depends where you start from.

If you start from where Verizon acquired it, it seems like a bad deal.

Marissa Meyer might be one of the worst modern ceos.

She did well for herself, and I'm not sure there are other relevant criteria by which to judge C-level executives at this point.

I mean, WordPress.com lets you have "mature" blogs... just no porn.

It's a minor miracle that Blogger of all things is the only big boy blog platform where you can still post hard dong. (Especially since they did try the Tumblr playbook of trying to ban porn, but even Google saw how asinine that would be so long after the fact. Google: 1, Verizon -29,238)

Like, imagine if you could straight up post amateur porn on YouTube, and it was totally cool as long as you marked your channel as AO. :lol That's kinda what the situation with Blogger is right now.

Well, yes, that's true. If Blogger were as popular as say Twitter, there would be a lot more pressure to remove adult content. Which is why it's encouraging (for now...) that Twitter allows it.

I think it's just a matter of time before it's banned from it too.
These big social media platforms seem to be going for a scorched earth approach with NSFW stuff, often painting with a very wide brush (pornstars accounts on Instagram getting banned even if they don't post anything NSFW is one such example).

You'd need a big platform, that's already culturally relevant but poised to host NSFW without risk of changing their position with the wind.
Basically: Pornhub's version of Twitter/Tumblr.
Everybody knows pornhub, they bult sort of an edgy or "cool" aura around them, and they aren't going to ban porn any time soon.  :doge

YouTube should allow porn just to see how their fucked up algorithm deals with it.
