For modern r&b my heart belongs to Janelle Monae, Badu, Sade, and Lauryn.
But that’s nothing compared to my idolation for the soul singers of the past like Aretha, Diana Ross, Tina, or even Whitney. Never mind funk singers like Chaka. Also Evelyn Champagne King, Donna Summer, Teena Marie: these ladies make the girls you listed okay, at best.
Hell, I’ll take female country singers (real country, with just a simple gee-tar) over any of the ladies you listed.
Heaven on vinyl.
