And what if you’re “too stupid” to understand the specific criticism being made about the structure and phrasing of a headline and/or thread title?

What then?

After the fact, yes it was still a dumbass decision to use huge cg eyes in Alita: Battle Angel

Quote
I, like many others, thought it looked terrible and was a stupid idea to use huge cg eyes in a movie where, more or less, everyone had normal proportions for facial features.

It's one thing to talk shit before watching a movie, like with Heath ledger's Joker, but now that I've rented and watched it I can say again it was the dumbest of decisions.

"Why?" Is really all I have to say. The actress without the cg make-up fits the part pretty well. The movie is actually pretty good except every few moments "why?" just keeps popping into my head.

Stuff like this and decisions made for the X-Men movies make me want to be a fly on the wall for meetings during their development.

Everyone will have nostalgia for their youth. There is nothing special about the 80s or 90s from that regard, just like there was nothing all that special about the “greatest generation” 40s and 50s no matter how much advertisers and the mass media were jerking off Baby Boomers about it 20-30 years ago.

:dunno

they're called the greatest generation because they went off to fight literal literal nazis, and then despite the well documented horrors of what they had seen and personal trauma, came home and just fucking got on with it, which in the case of the US was building industries that supplied 90% of the planet and in the case of europe was rebuilding the bombed out husks of cities under enormous scarcity and rationing, and building the systems to try and prevent such a thing ever happening again (shaky, but still holding up).

not because people are super fucking into vera lyn, smh

chivalry thread is pretty good too.

I have found that Southern boys (boys of any age) had "chivalry" pounded into them by their mamas and grannies. If not "chivalry", then at least "manners". The deeper into the South, the more "manners". Note: 41 years in Florida has taught me that Florida is not "the South".

Quote
Last summer, I went on a long tubing trip. It was incredibly tiring and when I got to the "takeout" point, I overshot it and ended up beached on a small island in the middle of the river. I was beat, and I mean really beat and literally could not get out of the big tube. I was rocking from side to side in the hopes I'd roll out of the tube and figure out to get across the river.

I heard shouting and saw a young man yelling from the riverbank, "Ma'am, Ma'am, stay where you are! I'll come and get you!" He swam over, tugged me off the island and towed me back to the takeout.

I thanked him profusely and he said, "We'll, I sure wouldn't anyone to leave my grandma stuck over there." I was incredibly grateful for his help, but couldn't he have said "my mama"?......LOL. THAT would have been pure chivalry....

LOVE those Southern boys!

I hate how a VPN is basically a free pass to be a completely anonymous asshole online as long as you don't do something that would be so horrible they would pursue a means to try and locate you. It's so fucked up. There are a lot of messed up people out there and I imagine like seen here clever ones just use a VPN.

Either way really glad they are able to keep tabs on the ones without VPN. Some really horrible people out there.

Without Nintendo would gaming go the way of mobile phones?

https://www.resetera.com/threads/without-nintendo-would-gaming-go-the-way-of-mobile-phones.134397/

Quote
here is an article in Bloomberg today about how gaming is a lot less uniform (i.e. boring) that other areas of technology. E.g. all mobile phones look the same even though they had much variety in the past. The article heavily focuses on Nintendo for examples of 'weirdness'.

Would the same thing happen to gaming without Nintendo? I believe we would have little innovation in controllers and even the look of consoles from Sony and Microsoft. However I do believe that indie games and low budget ones would still show innovation. Without Nintendo, would the AAA gaming industry go the way of modern pop music and become bland?

An excerpt:

The breadth of choices in gaming stands in stark contrast to other areas of technology. Android or iPhone? Facebook or Snapchat? Google or, um, Google? For many categories of consumer electronics, the titans of Silicon Valley churn out indistinguishable products, while the video game industry represents the rare corner of the business not entirely hampered by hegemony.

hail Nintendo.

GAF,

Relationship problems. Well more of an annoyance really. I've been with my girlfriend for a couple years now. First year we had no sexual relations. She intended to save herself for marriage to comply with her religious scruples, but she sort of dropped that after I bought her a $1,000 necklace lol. Anyway, starting off, sex was kind of bad, to be honest. But we've both been very open with each other and have communicated what we wanted and so forth. This would be good and bad. Any time I tried to tell her something I didn't like that she did, she would get very, very hurt. Nearly every time that's happened, sex flat out stopped for about three weeks or so. Well now I have another thing that I want to tell her bothers me, but I don't want to hurt her feelings, so I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on how to go about it subtly.

Anyway, after I finish, she just stops, looks in my eyes, and breaths, "Thank you." Then she's forcing out a giggle after it. It's definitely not her laugh. I don't know where that's coming from. Well this has been going on for about two weeks. At first I didn't know if I liked it or disliked it. As time went on I firmly decided it bugs me. Last night I wasn't able to finish cause all I could think about was how she was gonna say those words in her airy tone. Fucking bizarre. She's never made this sort of change with her demeanor before either. Maybe she's trying to be more kinky? I don't know. So do you guys know of some tricks or tips to gently lay it on her that it's not sexy and I want her to stop? GAF, please note, I'd like to have sex throughout the next three weeks.

in fairness, did anyone think cgi weeb eyes was a good idea?

I wasn't a fan of that design choice, but one of the reasons why they did this, if not the reason why, is because
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Alita is from Mars- she's an "alien."  The other Martian characters shown in flashbacks have the same kind of eyes.

And that's neat and all, but...regular eyes plskthx.

Well, I didn’t expect Kree just be outright misanthropic like this:

Agreed. You're well within your rights to want to give up on the bullshit.

People will try to tell you that life was worse before in an attempt to give you some "perspective," and they'll probably come off obnoxious while doing it, so just kindly remind them that you currently live in the present and that you can't see the future.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/evil-is-winning-life-is-cruel-and-im-tired.134227/page-2#post-23537855

how does that change fucking anything

yeah you live in the present where crime is at an all time low and you have the internet and video games instead of the choice between dick and jane or the bible and likely having your frail ass die of ingesting some combination of asbestos/lead/mercury or polio

and that's without going even further back to find things you don't currently suffer from

the problem is Louis CK is unpersoned so no one can post his bit about how everything is amazing and nobody's happy

Of the top four peer to peer connections... I did NOT expect Washington and California to be there.

I did expect Texas, and Florida makes sense I guess. But I must be missing something about racism and white supremacy on the west coast with Cali and Washington.
Mega lol at being surprised at Washington being on this “list”; and an additional lol at pinning this on Washington techbros. Go outside king county and get your eyes opened.

Wakanda had to remain invisible so that colonizers couldn't *check notes* build a multinational one of a kind scientific research facility with the backing of the majority of the local population

remember when that thread started and we thought its comedy potential was limited to pople thinkijng jason momoa had been run over by a bulldozer and that had delayed aquaman 2

Using 21st century machinery to protest against building telescopes on a barren land that is deemed "sacred". Pure poetry.
