That job is not minimum wage.  At least not in NYC and Chicago - they make $45k+ with full benefits.  I mean, it's not great, but still.  She's a complete idiot.

I know you said you’re not “both siding” it but you literally are. Antifa may be a massive pseudo-organisation but the frontlines of it at the communist/socialist/anarchist people and they’re the ones who are most active in opposing fascism. The vast majority of us here oppose fascism, and are vocal about it, but how many of us actively counter protest and spend a good amount of time in active participation opposing fascism? I’d argue not many.

I don’t politically align with communism/socialism/anarchism, and some I strongly oppose their political ideals, but as people they aren’t proponents of genocide and active hatred of people and they act peacefully. An Antifa isn’t pushing a singular ideology, it’s a Venn diagram with a common interest of Fuck fascism; it’s literally in the name. These counter protests aren’t there pushing far left ideologies, they’re there opposing far right ideologies. Individual people within that group might be interviewed and give their take but there isn’t a common cause beyond saying white supremacy is evil.
I blame BisMarckie for not having stopped this.

I am stuffing my face with Paczki and Pierogi, these Polish nazis know how to help their cause.  :-\

He has to justify that he's still the 'creative director' of fanfiction at 343 Industries.

TSA is a placebo.
Unless you really believe the biggest terrorist threat is internal to the US, because - I'd say most, but honestly don't have the statistics - a lot of other countries don't have anywhere close to the number of hoops the TSA make passengers jump through for flights headed to the US

I'm not a demolitions expert, but I'd imagine it's a much bigger pain in the ass to deal with a plane falling out of the sky wherever than an explosive at a security checkpoint.

Weren't those guys supporting EGS because they are friend to the devs? Oh wait, I get it, their devs not others. Like how he shilled Valve employees getting a vacation period are "lazy" instead of simply having good working conditions.

He is all for developers making more cash but then accuses a developer of cynically documenting their experience with Epic as some sort of sales tactic.

Seems rather flip-floppy to me.

Imagine accusing the game developer of cynicism in response to... Epic seeing a game a couple of weeks away from release on Steam and trying to bribe it away.

It's really odd why journos pick the store with its anti consumer scummy methods. Why aren't they covering how bad EGS behaviour is?

That dev probably turned down some good guaranteed upfront money and EGS gluttonous exclusivity deal spree is a big story that might reshape the whole market of PC videogames. Why the fucking smugness ? Where does the whole accusation of "martyr" came from ? I perused the medium post by that dev and I don't see it. He's kind of scared but is that unwarranted considering Epic is literally a multi billion business right now ? I guess debate can be had on how appropriate it was for him to disclose some of the communication he had with the EGS representatives but I would imagine Journalists® would be interested and not just dismissive.

All presentation materials as specified below must be sent to worldwidepluralevents@gmail.com.  We prefer that you upload to Google Drive and share the content link with us.  Other file-transfer methods may be possible.
Sessions are between 45 to 90 mins. Please keep recorded or planned materials to 60 minutes if you would like a live session or a pre-recorded session with a Q&A. 45 minutes is good for a long Q&A or more interactive or intense session.

If your session is pre-recorded with an expected Q&A in a YouTube premier, you need to extend the video to 90 minutes total with a splash screen “Q&A” at the end of the video and a 1 minute warning. YouTube Premier chats end about 1-2 minutes after the video ends.

Please do not go over 90 minutes. Viewers, moderators and other presenters need the downtime between sessions. Respect everyone’s time. We may also add warnings or conference intro screens etc. to your video as needed.  Pre-recorded sessions over 90 minutes may be trimmed at the discretion of the conference organizers.

We reserve the right to reject or edit audio content or blur imagery as needed or outright reject an entire presentation based on content that may be triggering.
No religious or spiritual symbols, names of deities or their assistants, or religious words in the session content or on display on-camera or in photos or artwork. (i.e. don’t sing a hymn, wear religious jewelry, no statues or wall-hangings with religious content, and do not discuss your deity or praise them in the video) unless necessary for the session content and explicitly warned in the program description. If it is necessary to your personal story at the start of the video, please keep it brief and respectful, and include that it will be mentioned in context of your personal experience in the program description.

Any content with littles presenting needs to be cleared by conference organizers.
Please submit a list of links used in your presentation when you submit the recorded presentation.
Studies, books, research mentioned.

No affiliate links unless it’s an affiliate link to your own work. (i.e. so you get full royalties on your own book or product.)

Audio-only submissions will be made into a video. Please feel free to send an image or graphic for the background of your presentation.  If you want the image or graphic to change during the presentation, please send us the timestamp(s) at which you want the graphics inserted in the presentation (timed to the audio itself). Make sure the images are copyright free or that you have written permission for usage!

Please submit scripts or transcripts whenever possible to help ensure that your presentation is accessible to all. We have limited volunteers for creating closed captions and it’s exceptionally labor-intensive. You can volunteer to correct your own transcript or closed captions in YouTube or with temi.com — which would be enormously helpful.
Please fully describe your graphics in your presentation for the blind and visually impaired.  Alternatively, submit a text file with audio descriptions for all infographics in your presentation along with timestamps and volunteers will record audio descriptions on YouDescribe or similar software.

Article submissions may be read and pre-recorded for release with other videos, and the article used as the transcript to create captions.

Publicly declining an Epic exclusivity deal is probably worth a fair bit in terms of publicity considering how apprehensively people are approaching EGS.
Which I find delusional.

Just cutting in here to say, lay off Jason, he’s got hot takes for days, but if you can’t understand why he might choose to side against “gamers”, you need to consider the amount of, what I assume is constant, harassment him and his colleagues face from “gamers”.

If I had to contend with that on the daily, I’d be hard pressed to see the good in siding with the people who harass me.

People are alluding to Schreier taking a jab at Valve for a company wide vacation, and I looked for the article.

Quote
The Epic Store, which launched last year, has been racking up exclusives thanks to lucrative deals for publishers and a developer-friendly revenue split. (...) There’s no extra cost associated with switching between the two PC launchers, so for those who are upset, this appears to be about convenience and principles.

This reads like copy-pasted PR. :mindblown

Quote
Meanwhile, you can expect these Epic Store controversies to continue at least until Valve relents on that 70-30 per cent split, which might affect their yearly company-wide Hawaii vacations but would probably make game developers’ lives a whole lot better.

What does it have to do with a flippant take on what a dev said ?

https://www.resetera.com/threads/darq-dev-why-i-turned-down-exclusivity-deal-from-the-epic-store.135529/post-23699408

Jason Schreier has (what I assume is a constant) loathing for gamers, developers, and store fronts due the harassment he and his colleagues face from "resetera members constantly demanding to know why he isn't commenting on the daily outrage".

Imagine accusing the game developer of cynicism in response to... Epic seeing a game a couple of weeks away from release on Steam and trying to bribe it away.

Good stuff.

Its telling Epic is buying off devs near the release of steam games. They really dont mind showing up with the money bags, dont they?

This is reminds me of people getting mad at limp bizkit because they sold out.

That's ERA hyperbole for you but it's pretty aggressive nonetheless for Epic to suddenly offer an exclusivity deal two weeks to release, without even securing some NDA or minimal confidentiality with the dev.

Like if it wasn't really well thought out and not very considerate of developers having to suddenly renege commitments to their customers.

When I read stuff like that from a journalist like jason schreier I kinda wish we never gave kotaku attention on this site but thats just me. There's something very suspicious with journalists and EGS as a whole.
There's nothing suspicious about sweet Chinese money bub

The EPIC GAME STORE is... EPIC. It already says so in the name.
STeam, what's that? Vaporized water LMAO.

Wishlists, which aren't even preorders, most like remind me when it comes out. That said, it's hilarious that's seems to be Epic's primary way to determine if an indie game is good enough to be on its store.

Kickstarter promises in some cases. Here it's not a legally binding one but having a trailer announcing the release on Steam in 18 days only to just have to go "well forget that, I'm on EGS now" if he took the deal is pretty silly and it would bother me as a potential customer.

Kinda make the whole "This is for the devs" spiel ring hollow.

The Era thread for this is fun too

Users of the Apex Legends subreddit were left shocked and outraged last night as two Respawn developers called gamers “dicks”, suggested they were “ass-hats” and described them as “freeloaders” in unfiltered public comments.
