Seems pretty clear to me, trans has little/nothing to do with it (aside from maybe using them as something "goofy" to represent something the comic sees as negative, in this case journalists). The comic is spreading Trump's propaganda that journalists lie ("fake news!") - these ones see the truth coming so must hide from it to tell their lies.

May not be transphobic, but it's definitely not a message I'm happy Adult Swim is trying to spread.
Quote
Because it's Trump's propaganda that journalists lie, which is what the comic is showing us. I don't see how Adult Swim posting a single comic showing this, in these days, could *not* be trying to promote Trump's propaganda.
Quote
How does the artist's nationality affect Adult Swim's decision to post it? You really think Adult Swim wouldn't think that this is promoting Trump's anti-journalism propaganda? I didn't say the artist had that in mind, I said "I don't see how Adult Swim posting a single comic showing this, in these days, could *not* be trying to promote Trump's propaganda."

Basically the full context makes the comic itself less objectionable, but does nothing to damp down that the twitter replies are full of people who read it as transphobic and are celebrating that fact. Adult Swim is still shitty in this situation, because you don't signal boost a thing that needs context without context and pretend you don't know what's gonna happen.

"I disagree that taking needless showers purely for relaxation is bad for the environment"

""""BRUH"""""
Your judgement in that reply is absolutely awful, those kinds of posts are done solely to troll, and the proof is that ONE OF THE PEOPLE I CALLED OUT ACTUALLY AGREED WITH ME AND EDITED HIS POST TO "good point."
Quote from: Krejlooc
Are you freaking nuts? I'm talking about the several posts which have told me to DRINK A BEER IN THE SHOWER after I told people I was an alcoholic, and you say doing that is them calmly saying "we enjoy it and don't care about being lectured"? You call THAT a disagreement??

look at this shit:

Quote
Telling a projecting recovering alcoholic to relax and not be so preachy = hedonism.
How did this person tell me to "relax"?

Quote
Have a shower beer and chill out a bit
You come across as needlessly sanctimonious. Get off your high horse
Yeah, this shit isn't "disagreeing" with me, this dude admitted he knew I was an alcoholic and is still encourgaging me to drink, but you think it's just a "disagreement" and not something intended to annoy or insult, simply because you agree with the sentiment?

""""""""""""""""BRUH"""""""""""""""""""

Quote
But lecturing everyone else about one individual thing Brainy Smurf-style about a thing people have enjoyed since the thing was invented, is a surefire way to get people to roast you a little. Just sayin'.
Telling an alcoholic to go drink in the shower is not "roasting" a little. It's making fun of a disease in a callous way intended to insult.

There was a dude on the last page calling on people to "report me" for not being a "real alcoholic." What the fuck is that shit? It's a "disagreement" to play no true scottsmen with diseases??

If someone on this board posted that they had lung cancer and someone else told them to go smoke a cigarette when they were complaining about tobacco advertisement, I'm so certain you'd call it just a disagreement, sure.
Quote from: Krejlooc
redbull actually cannot advertise that "redbull gives you wings" anymore because it's false advertisement, they dropped that tagline like a decade ago.

There are guidlines to commercials, for example there are strict limits about what can and cannot be advertised to children. This is because advertising really works and it's honestly not good to put any message out into the public without regard for ill effects simply to chase profit.

Every thing that is created now is impacted by the present moment. Maybe this comic would have been made this exact same way if Hillary or Jill Stein won the election. Maybe not. Hypotheticals like that honestly don't matter.

I personally don't care if this comic is engaging with Trump specifically, but when Fake News is being spouted from the President and a number of major news sources, a comic like this needs to be more precise than "Journalists lie to themselves!" Is it critiquing the people who shout about Fake News? Is it critiquing the people who aren't? Is it critiquing the people who think the cute animal rescue stories are important news when the world is on fire? Who knows? But we can each put our reading onto the comic, which does nothing productive--particularly when the "Journalists are Fake News" reading seems so front and center.

Really, you honestly can't see why this comic on its own could be transphobic. I'm not saying it is, but you put the juxtiposition of a clearly buff-male character in feminine dress and hair-style hiding themselves in a cave, lying to themselves and drawing rainbows and unicorns with THE TRUTH falling from the sky--and that couldn't possibly be mistaken for a transphobic comic about these characters gender-fluidity is a lie?

The entire game still grosses me out about how pornographic it is.
Played once with a friend and never want to touch it again with a 10 meter pole.
Basically every single female character that is not the elf is simply pornographic and follows zero internal logic with other male characters.
And that is without talking about the unlockable art that is "I don't want to be caught looking at this" embarassing juvenile (to not say pedophilic)

Which is sad because beat em up (and the capcom d&d games, which this game is a spiritual sequel to) are some of my favorite games ever. And i simply cannot instaquit if I see the orgasming nun again
hold up, this a new Steam game or somethin?

Man why cant people just be fine with what they like being called smut. I mean is it too hard to ask to own up to something like that? I like this game, and it is smut, no way around that arguement. And yes the artwork is problematic, you just need to realize why its problematic and make sure that aspect never seeps into how you view/treat women.

This comes from a guy with a :sadpanda avatar.

I don’t have problem with people calling stuff smut, I have problem with those people bitching about it non stop and trying to get people to feel ashamed of yourself even enjoying the stuff.

I learned the hard way that even if you admit something is problematic, the woke people will not stop bitching about it.

Context isn't fully absolving. People have flaws and shortcomings, and an ally in most cases can disregard humanity in others. I'm willing to chalk this up to a poorly thoughtout comic, but this weird rhetoric that the artist couldn't possibly be transphobic because he's made positive comics in the past is equally short-sighted.

He might still be transphobic despite making comics specifically against transphobia!!

Weird how this arts meaning, however nebulous it may be, can't just 'be.' No, in today's world, art that is designed as a mirror pointed against the onlooker isn't the onlookers fault, it's the artist for showing them their own flaws.

The best part is that once this absurd machine is running it's hard to stop. Look how many people haven't read the thread but jumped right to commenting.

Mathiu Conel is definitely getting banned in that thread (for what, I'm not sure, since his posts are generally much calmer than the people he's responding to.)

Because it's Trump's propaganda that journalists lie, which is what the comic is showing us. I don't see how Adult Swim posting a single comic showing this, in these days, could *not* be trying to promote Trump's propaganda.

:lol

I can't begin to imagine the sort of artists that could come out of the sort of mindset exhibited in that thread. So far... m0dus and furry kink porn art I guess.

Autistic comedians that aren't funny.

All comedy is Trump propaganda  :hmph :wag

Jokes and satire are invented by the alt-right/gamergate to obscure the truth   :hmph :wag

Last Podcast on the Left had a humorous/depressing point about how in our current society, comedians are now self-appointed arbiters of justice and moral authority, while the politicians are making fun of each other and saying ever-more-outrageous things to score votes.

/r/showerthoughts

Honestly, it takes the fun out of both TBH.
