I feel like this issue is a lot bigger than comedians, though. Jokes have been a free pass for spreading bigotry for... well, probably at least as long as culture as a whole has been calling it unacceptable. It's not even a right wing this, since there are plenty of people on the left side who think it's somehow fundamentally different when they tell a racist joke than when someone else does the exact same thing but with different intent.

I actually had a dude on this forum - someone who I think has totally good intentions, albeit being naive at times - complain to me in a PM that they got banned for typing in a mock asian accent when clearly they were doing it ironically and not actually being racist. So I ended up giving him a whole explanation of how, growing up around racist white people, I also adopted that style of humour and had a rude awakening when I realized that they weren't really joking and I was just normalizing their views by laughing along with him. Hopefully he learned from it.

But it's bizarre to me because he just sent this out of the blue, and I don't know why he expected me to agree with his position. I was born in Asia, "Asian" is the box I check when job applications ask for ethnicity. Is it that he assumed that the person across the screen had to be another white guy who was also equally detached from the jokes he was telling? How is getting punished for your racist jokes not a point to reflect on?

(Although I'll add that this is a broader discussion, and Shane Gillis doesn't even have the cheap excuse of "irony" to hide behind. He's just a straightforward racist.)

Comedians really miss the 80s-90s.

When I used "they" as a way to refer to an individual on reeeeeset, Incelspreadsheet accused me of 'gender neutraling' the person and said is was weird to use it.

I like using 'they' for all people, because I can't be bothered to learn every persons pronoun and I thought it would eliminate confusion or offense. But no, nothing is ever good enough for those mentally ill rejects.
