There's a significant difference between "Hey porky pig! Oink oink, you loser! Go kill yourself, fatty!" and "Being fat is bad for your health and also looks bad. You should do your best to healthily avoid it / try to lose some weight."

The former probably costs lives. The latter probably saves lives.

That thread is filled with plenty of "she's gross" posts mocking her disease.

The irony of people who live in a place that doesn't have public health care complaining about someone being obese is delicious.

I can understand the complaints from those with socialised healthcare (someone has to pay for the expensive consequences of obesity), but when healthcare is a user-pays system, complaining about someone's weight is purely based on cosmetic reasons and pretty damn petty.

I know. I was talking about the issue, not exonerating anyone.

He means it's funny how the opposition to public health care is always "why should I have to pay taxes to help sick poor people" then when there's sick poor people they say "I'm tired of all these sick poor people I have to look at".

Nah, he said "lives in a country." He's not talking about hypocrisy. He plainly said it was pettiness, because obviously the only reason you'd care if someone is fat is if they're either costing you money or if they're hard to look at; and if it's the latter, that's petty.

And it's a ridiculous notion that the only reason you'd want America to be less fat is to save yourself taxes or to have fewer eyesores. The third shocking possibility is you just want your country and your neighbors, acquaintances and friends to be healthy.

So I saw Best Buy’s weekly ad and it seems a whole lot of THQ Nordic games are at an extreme discount. Could be something they always planned to do (probably), but maybe people have actually been boycotting their games.

Quote from: Hero of Legend, post: 19616085, member: 8465
I did consider that, but sadly I feel we're the only ones, if any, to really be vocally against their actions to the point of legit boycotting their games. It seems the very vast majority have moved on, if they even were aware in the first place. :(

Quote from: GhostTrick, post: 19616132, member: 1362
The whole thing has basically gone under the radar. Shame.

Quote from: Diggeh, post: 19616187, member: 1778
I can't even keep up a serious discussion in other threads because people just dismiss and bury it so they can talk about the exact frame rate of a port. It's really embarrassing and really makes me rethink attempting to engage people in those threads.

Not that it'll stop me from reposting the nice summary post someone made in the main THQN thread we had, but still.

Paying for universial healthcare -> higher taxes -> less obesity

The more untreated sick people the more you save.

In the context of that neogaf thread, how many people do you genuinely think were commenting based on their altruistic feelings that they want their countrymen and women to be healthy? They were being nasty cunts based on aesthetics. That's where my comment was directed.

Dude, your reading comprehension is shot right now for some reason. Potato was saying that in his view it makes sense to be upset with fat people in a socialized healthcare society, because their obesity will cause health problem after problem after problem that taxpayers will have to foot the bill for. That's why in his view it doesn't make sense for people in America to complain, because the obese have to pay for their own medical needs. (It does get transferred to society in other ways, but that's going beyond the scope of my point.)

Ah, yeah, in the context of that thread, I doubt a lot of their mindsets are altruistic. Your post was overly broad, but I get what you're getting at now. I thought you were directing it at me because I pointed out that while bullying fat people is bad, recognizing how unhealthy obesity is probably saves lives.

I know, but imagine being so fucking petty that you find a social media post by a multinational corporation that's irrelevant to you so offensive that you go to your favourite video game forum to post the tweet in the politics sub-forum looking for outrage/cool kid points/a chance to "own the libtards".

It's just so pathetic. Like, frown to yourself and move on.

It started quite some time ago
His name was Pitfall Harry
I learned of bits and algorithms
On a 2600 Atari

And then there came Nintendo
It began my end I think
For I had to rescue Princess Zelda
As a courageous lad named Link

I peered at that screen for hours
Each puzzle, each riddle, each stage
And Gannon was no match for me
My frenzied button rage

The torch then passed to Genesis
And with it Altered Beast
Addicted to those graphics
My life outside had ceased

Compulsion soon would fade
I slowly began to bore
Then Sony created the gamers dream
To brilliant to ignore

Dazzled bye amazing play
lost for a year or two
Acting as an exercise scarecrow
And girl repellant too

So now I have no gaming system
But it seems that my PC
Is the summit of Geek Mountain
And that's where you'll find me.

I used to work across the road from a hosptial and the number of fatass Aussie bogans standing outside in the smoking area with an IV in their arm was bad enough. A good proportion of them were morbidly obese or pregnant too.

THQ Nordic is the most bullish looking game publisher that I've seen in the current market. While basically everyone else is the dumps after the market took a shit late last year, they're grinding away at their all time high.

(orange line = EA, cyan = Activision)

To be fair brands need to stop using such material just for 'shock' value.
If EA would promote their Battlefield games with pictures of especially obese war casualties they wouldn't be aplauded for being 'inclusive'.

These fucking brands man

Angry Joe does it right. He just has a fat man with a beard and no one is being weird about it or starting every stream whining about how 'inclusive' they are for having a fat guy on the show.
Del is just there, being part of the crew. Accepted like everyone else in the Angry Joe show.

I think "where roughly fifty percent of people have been conditioned to always virtue signal at all costs, and therefore has to pretend that they don't think their wasted lives are more important to them than some random child's life" is more accurate.

For the record the admin who posted the MW2 image had been preparing a lengthy reply and intended a serious discussion about the nature of consumerism. The mod team, completely separately, made a call to lock the thread as it had been deteriorating for a while.

This should've been nothing but because of unfortunate timing it gave the appearance of cause and effect, and due to the lock the serious discussion that was intended never materialized.

Also, never forget:
This is an ok post, but there's some problems I am seeing. I'm not sure what is going in the OP with the over-usage of bold and underline, but it makes the post itself extremely difficult to read. Additionally, when you're outlining this as some form of breakdown on a situation, it is strange that many of these points are raised without citation or linking to the referenced incident.

Two examples:
Quote
People are, in fact, excited by new storefronts.
A statement like this needs to have some sort of citation or elaboration. Who is excited by storefronts? Who are these people?
Quote
we learned that all these exclusive games would launch for a 12 month exclusive period
While I know the referenced sources here, it would be to your benefit to provide those sources so a reader unfamiliar with the situation can access the information for themselves.

LITERALLY the only time I have EVER seen a fucking forum admin issuing a report card on an OP  :lol :lol :lol

one would think a smarter solution would be to reopen the locked thread and allow sweetnicole to post her lengthy reply there, to get the serious discussion going since that was her intention.

but then again, if they did that she'd actually have to produce a lengthy serious reply that she never actually intended to write.

From the perspective of "console/platform warring" Steam is not considered a platform in the same way that Sony, PC Gaming, Nintendo or Microsoft are considered platforms.

It is important to note that there is an important distinction between a hardware platform and a distribution platform. A hardware platform such as the PS4 is a platform because you need the PS4 (hardware) to run PS4 games. You need an Xbox One (hardware) to run Xbox One games. You need a Nintendo Switch (hardware) to run Nintendo Switch games. You do not need Steam to run PC games.

Steam is not a hardware platform, but PC gaming is a hardware platform.  All hardware platforms and associated warring are and will be moderated the same way.As such, it will not be treated the same as the hardware platforms of Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo or PC gaming.

We strive to treat all hardware platforms equal on ResetEra, but again, Steam is not a hardware platform.
lmao, the only reason this stuck out to me so much when it comes to REEE is just how blatant they are about it.

Homegirl’s romantic partner gets people banned, people link to Nintendo jack offs celebrating bans, and when called out: Whoops! We like to save people from platform trolling, but unfortunately y’all aren’t a real platform, so lol good luck getting fucked by the resident derps  🤷‍♂️

It's pretty funny how outdated this shit is already. Especially since Microsoft is saying fuck it, we're just going to put our games everywhere but Sony. Do they even bother updating this 'rule' when streaming games goes mainstream? There's suddenly would be no 'platform box' to 'platform.'

Gaf and subsequently reset have always been console oriented forums with huge blinders when it comes to mobile or pc gaming.

PC-brehs, I feel you, but you're still fucking posting there when you know an admin fucking hates your entire community
:neogaf :mindblown :ufup :umad :cmonson :girlaff :crowdlaff

hard to "feel" a community who submit to becoming insipid nutjob appeasing worm people just to keep their posting rights, having to coat any hint of criticism in a slime of mod wanking precum.

rees get the mods they deserve.

I didn't know the source, was just going off of Straight Edge's post.

And mine was better anyway because the fact it's dragging behind him in between his legs implies such goofy, clumsy, painful movement.  :hmph

If that makes you feel better, I always counted out of the "most of the press is spineless". :")

The bravery of getting blocked from a Skype group for being an annoyance.
