I don't buy Blaire White's argument that you can walk into a salon, not announce that you're trans and ask for a Brazilian wax and whip out your peen and everything would be alright. Especially if Jessica Yaniv did that.

if they deny you service based on you having a penis, they would do it regardless if you pretend it's a vagina or whatever

Is the middle like a flaccid penis, or just half erect?

Bizarre how various chan sites are used throughout the western world yet these shootings only happen in the US.

(It's because Steven Seagal and his friend Putin run the rest of the world in a correct manner)

A bunch of people left GAF because of how bad it was getting to start their own forum, that then became even worse than GAF, but also GAF is even worse than it's offshoot now.

Let me tell you a little story of the 1600s. A bunch of Europeans showed up on the land of First Nations people. At first the natives were happy to help the newcomers. Some tribes asked for their help fighting another tribe...

Eventually the First Nations people realized that the whites would never stop coming. There would always be more, and more, and more. They realized that as long as Europeans could keep coming, the First Nations people would lose their land and would have no future in their own lands.

So, they started shooting arrows into the Europeans. I'm not saying it was right or wrong, I'm saying that when you show up to take land from a tribe, there will always be a reaction.

I don't even understand what people acting so toxic over these things are trying to accomplish. If I were a developer and saw people acting this way to stories regarding EGS exclusivity, I may have chosen to go with EGS just to spite these people. Aside from being toxic and horrible and possibly even criminal, this kind of behaviour from gaming "fans" seems counterproductive

OFFICIAL STAFF COMMUNICATION
Thread rebooted. This is the second thread on this subject which has gone poorly, so let's be extra clear -- when a topic is about harassment, threats, or fake defamatory screenshots, that is a cue to take a step back and remember that nothing at stake here is worth any of this. At all.

It is not the time to drop one sentence of condolence before launching into a spiel about how Epic and their partners are also bad.
It is not an opportunity to derail the thread into yet another discussion about the many problems with the EGS. There are many many threads about the EGS and its problems and you are welcome to discuss those problems there. This is not such a thread.

If you do not feel any horror or sadness after reading news like this, you should not post in this thread. If you want to write a response that is mostly about your own grievances, you should not post in this thread. Any criticism must be constructive, polite, relevant, and absolutely clear about not being any kind of justification for harassment. Have doubts? Don't post.

On the other hand there should not be any generalizations about all EGS critics being supportive of harassment. A thread like this must be treated seriously; a terrible thing has happened. Posters should be interested in deescalation, not in more conflict.

We will be moderating as tightly as necessary to keep the peace.
This is basically a official staff communication saying not to post in the thread at all. Except to signal to others your "horror and sadness" over internet stupidity.

Can I be honest? I'm just glad we're making any kind of progress on this at all.

When I made my thread earlier, I had people (not everyone, but more than one) bring up the following things:
Accusing me of gaslighting EGS critics
On some level, deserving the harassment I got
Death threats are unacceptable, but.

But.

Those posts were, to be honest, disgusting, and stuck with me personally.

When the Gamebiz thread earlier discussed the Ooblets devs receiving the gargantuan amount of abuse they got, we saw more of the same:
That blog post was bad, they should've just been nice like all the other devs
Epic's CEO shouldn'tve trolled, this is his fault
We should be able to criticize devs without being accused of death threats
We don't condone harassment here, but.

But.

It was pretty demoralizing, to be honest. We had almost regressed worse than we had gone before.

Fast forward to now.

We have a line in the sand now. Those kind of things are getting hit, and hit hard. It feels like we at least turned a corner, even if it's a small one.

We know who to blame, it's the people doing the harassment. Nobody else.
If you think you're being accused of something, then this is pretty simple.
Are you harassing or threatening people over this?
No: Then it's not about you
Yes: Then it's about you.

It's something I've been wondering. Do you guys think it'd help if Valve were to come out and take a stand against the toxicity and abuse that this entire thing has been breeding?
Now before anyone says something along the lines of it's not Valve's responsibility or that the games are not on steam, think about this, steam forums are being used as a breeding ground for this toxicity as well. Additionally I'd like to think that they'd care about developers being abused in general over this whole ordeal.

I don't really understand what's happening here, because Glumberland clearly started all the flame thanks to their controversial blog post and then continued with their hateful comments on their Discord channel, even insulting their Patrons. Why gamers are always blamed for stuff like this and devs are always painted as the victims? If they took approach of, let's say, Sinking City devs, it woudn't be any drama (Frogwares stated that they need this exclusivity deal, because it will help to keep stability of their studio. Simple statement, zero passive-aggressive comments)
Why this PR disaster is praised by the media and Tim Sweeney? I just don't get it.

User warned: inappropriate language

It's funny, in the arcade days it was often said how everything was a mystery. Nobody really knew who was the best but everyone thought their best guy was the real best. Stuff like this wasn't supposed to happen anymore. We're supposed to know who's the best and a unknown is never supposed to win. Maybe they make it far and impress a lot of people, but not win.

But here we are. Arslan won EVO Japan, came back to prove that he isn't a fluke and the Pakistani scene was secretly the best the whole time and not South Korea. When was the last time the "real" best player or scene was unknown to everyone like this in modern times?

My background is Street Fighter and I just can't imagine the equivalent happening in that game. Same probably goes for players of many other games regardless of genre.

MOD EDIT: inappropriate language removed

User warned: inappropriate language

Is Arslan the best Pakistani player of Tekken 7? (i mean yes he is now lol, but i mean in local scene, i read some tweets that he is not even the best Tekken 7 player there)

It's really amazing how Pakistan secretly has amazing players like that. That makes you think what other countries has "secret gems" like Arslan that doesnt have the resources to compete in big tournaments.

MOD EDIT: imappropriate language removed
oh, well, now we know what the imappropriate language was at least

looking at that article

The UK developer anticipated some backlash, publishing a blog post that explained its reasoning and addressed the most common complaints with the Epic Games Store's divisive exclusivity strategy. It also tweeted: "Okay, so we did the thing! The thing people get angry about. But maybe don't get angry about it?"

People did get angry about it, and to a degree that shocked Glumberland's co-founders.

"We really misjudged how angry so many people would be," Cordingley and Wasser said in a message to the Ooblets Patreon community.

what is this fucking dr. seuss

Quote
"This whole thing has just devastated us. We've been getting thousands if not tens of thousands of hateful, threatening messages across every possible platform nonstop. It's especially hurtful since we've had such a positive, supportive relationship with our audience throughout development."

The Patreon community has also been the source of messages of support, Glumberland said, but the intensity of the response was such that "I have been crying nonstop for the last two days and feeling like the world has collapsed around me."

"I couldn't have guessed the scale of what it would feel like to be the target of an internet hate mob," the statement said.

How does a board demanding their hobby be their identity, reflect them as people, and avoid radicalizing with white supremacist messages, suddenly act like their hobby is the blandest, most insignificant activity on the planet?

Their entire existence as a board is a 'safe' place to talk about their hobby.

I mean, the fuck were they thinking with their statement? Nobody deserves threats over this shit, and getting broken emotionally over a wombat biting you when you slap it in the head is being more than bit idiotic.

 :brain

I don't understand the kind of person who reads and engages with and takes to heart all the shit flung their way

based on the attitude of their blog posts the expected response to death threats is "cry more manbabies"

it's easy enough to conclude that literally no one cares about anonymous vitriol, as they shouldn't, and this is crocodile tears looking for sympathy which is even more pathetic

but on the off chance they are seriously soaking in all the hate, what the fuck

I'm picturing being in their situation and just visiting a national park for a weekend, getting back home and clicking "delete all messages" while finishing my baja blast freeze

looking at that article

Quote

Does anyone else find it a bit weird that they even have a "patreon community". Apparently do they offer nothing but some behind the scenes looks. I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would pay for that. This is not even like a kickstarter where you'll get a copy of the game
