Not really, there's people on Patreon who get $500 a month for tweeting the same thing over and over again. Not even writing articles or anything. Just tweets and retweets. About how people don't do what they want.

How much money would this thread generate if it had a Patreon account?

ooblets  reponse was tone deaf but what pushed this into fuck them mode was Tim Sweeney cheering them on and it came off as a fuck you to the backers.

You know what made me feel unwanted a while back?

When I made my thread about the toxicity in this stuff and talked about people sending me death threats, something I hadn't done out of fear

Then someone said I simply made the thread to gaslight people

and you agreed with them.

lol at that Kyuuji fight with the elderly dude still going in other threads: https://www.resetera.com/threads/8chan-has-been-shut-down.133074/post-23370771
Quote from: Kyuuji
Why is this old self-absorbed twat still here?
Quote from: Kyuuji
“Ally”

You derail threads about mental health, aggressively demand no-one side eye 60yo’s chasing teenagers and talk about how beautiful young bodies are. You’re an ally to no-one. You’re only here to garner attention and whine about the young while lusting over them and telling people how ‘vigorous’ lovers teenagers can be.
Quote from: Kyuuji
Like, surprise surprise, the member that spent an entire thread demanding no-one side-eye a 60yo chasing teenagers for sexual relationships, hand-waving any concerns of abuse and spending post on post talking about how beautiful young bodies are is butthurt that people are cheering fucking 8chan going down.

The sus fucking continues and still a fucking temporary ban.
Despite weeks of reports.

Weak. Absolutely fucking pathetic.
Quote from: Kyuuji
Read their posts as a whole in the thread, they trend considerably and when you’ve gone through a few pages you’ll see it.

It’s fucking vile and transparent.

Quote
I want to fucking puke reading their posts.

Honestly this. What the hell mods.
Quote
can we get rid of the fucking boomer please
Quote from: Kyuuji
Read through a few pages and you’ll see it. Extremely transparent the more you read.

Also, the struggle never ends:
Quote
Now we wait for them to do something to get 4chan deplatformed
Quote
Now take down 4chan, Breitbart, and Kiwi Farms.
Quote
You've gotta take down 4chan so these people don't have a solid/natural place to regroup to, honestly.
Quote
Badly need to start something to get all of the chans permanently nuked, along with all the other slimey trash.
Quote
Hopefully 4chan next. They idolize the Christchurch shooter (and probably the most recent terrorist) just as much.
Quote
Feels weird Cloudflare took down their services for 8chan but not 4chan? Like 4chan is just as toxic.
Quote
fighting these sites is a pointless endeavor as long as youtube/twitch/facebook/twitter refuse to moderate

Facebook is just as rotten man.

i wonder if THQ Nordic is just gonna continue ignore all this shit

they probably will

Is anyone in gaming media going to hold them accountable?

Reminder that Matthew Prince (Cloudflare CEO) is a major prick and would have preferred to host 8chan forever if he could.

User Banned (Permanent): Inflammatory Community Generalizations and Antagonizing Other Users; Ignoring Staff Post; Prior Severe Bans for Bigotry

Nothing unusual here. It’s the same mob mentality that allowed gamergate and nazism happen. People just like to pile on what’s popular to hate without pausing and thinking if it’s really worth it. Usually it’s instigated by few but picked by thousands because people love to hate and parroting each other. It seems to be built into our nature.

Anyway I’ve never heard about Ooblets until a few days ago and I’m buying this game on the release day because fuck you.

Just because it wasn't kickstarter, but Patreon doesn't mean it's not the same thing.

Try to dunk on the hand that feeds you and then get butthurt when said  hand bitchslaps you instead of feeds you, brehs.

"Fuck you, we got Epic's money. We don't you need you funding our development anymore. LOL!"
"Wait, what do you mean you'll no longer fund our shit and not buy the game?! COME BACK!!!!!!!"

What is with developers (of which Stuffy isn't one) thinking being total assholes to their customers is somehow not going to backfire? Like, I can understand getting angry or sad at the hate behind the scenes, but you're in a "retail shit job" situation of "grin and bear it."

Quote
This has been on my mind since there was a topic a few weeks ago where a bunch of posters wondered why people never appologize for bad previous online behavior until it blows up in their face, and has made me want to take my own lumps. As I begin to reach into later adulthood, with fresher eyes, I can look back upon my previous webposting history and recognize many things that, today, I really hate.

I've been on the internet since super early. My parents got Compuserve in 1989, and we were always BBS posters, or would hang out in world's chat. There is one online community, for example, that I've been a part of for almost 23 years now. For the vast majority of my life, my online interactions were cordial. But, there was definitely a period where I perpetuated the same toxic webculture that I hate today. My bad online behavior was relegated to a spin off site from a different, more well known site. The premise of that spin off site was that it was supposed to be private, by invite only, and that it had "no rules." Around the time I was graduating college, I found myself more isolated and alone, and found myself turning more and more to this private site for socialization. The "no rules" nature of the site meant that lots of awful shit would get passed around. While I didn't post anti-feminist rhetoric or transphobic garbage or anything extreme like that, my posts were still "trolling" and generally negative. I was stupid and hurtful for a rise. I think the terms would be "try hard" and "edgelord" in the parlance. People who behaved like me and claim today that they "didn't know better" are lying. Deep inside, I knew that posting specifically to upset other people on a forum was an asshole thing to do, but I guess I didn't care. I craved attention and acceptance. On the specific board I went to, there was a running theme that the edgier and angrier you were when you posted online, the more "cool" you were. There was a clique of posters that were the loudest, and much of the site was trying to get into that clique.

It was a pathetic time in my life, where I hurt people with "jokes" that I'd known online for a decade plus.

About 7 years ago I left that board because of a really sad story. I had a friend who was going through a rough time in her life. She graduated college and found herself isolated in the Pacific Northwest and was legitimately depressed. I got her an invite to the board so we could all keep in touch and to my surprise she took to the board heavily. When I say took the board, I mean took to the board in a way that I take to boards (look at my post count). She would tell me about how suddenly she felt this sense of belonging and community, and how she'd find herself laying in bed at night till 5:30 in the morning hitting refresh on her phone to see the latest posts. At the same time, her vocabulary and slang started to change, to match "internet culture." She actually became sort of a mirror for my own posts and behavior. Seeing this happen to a friend, made me feel awful for inviting her to the forum, and also made me want to get away from it all. So I did, I left the forum in an asshole way (claiming I had found some cachet of private info on the entire forum, which was a lie, to make them ban me) and, despite them trying to invite me back 3 times since, I've stayed off, no desire to go back.

But I still think about how I used to behave. It embarrasses me. I know what simple "trolling" does. I believe very much today that toxic webculture is what has fueled a lot of societies ills, and I contributed to it. It's stupidity that I will never live down, it's not something you can make go away or undo.

This isn't a post asking for forgiveness, because A) I'd assume virtually none of the people that I knew for years and considered honest to god friends online from that board are here outside of a couple that converse with me, and they're the ones I would really need to ask forgiveness from, and B) I believe that you can never actually be forgiven, only try to be better going forward. And that's what I've tried to do since changing my online ways. I don't like when people sugar coat things, claim that "the past isn't me" or that "it was a different time." That's all bullshit, that "trolling" I did is very much a part of my past which forms me today, and 7 years ago was hardly different. The real difference is that I guess back then, for stupid, selfish, moronic reasons, I just "didn't care," where today, living in the results of hundreds of millions of people acting with the same mindset, I find myself caring very much. If I could go back in time, I'd hate the poster I was.

I just wanted to get this off my chest.

You're posting completely intuited takes with nothing to back you up so I don't really see what justifies that tone. You're out here extolling the robustness of an imaginary wall you just invented between thoughts and actions, and worse, you're saying that "media influences people's propensity for violence" is ridiculous and "media makes people see others different" is not. Why not just get out your phrenologist gear and point to the parts on our head that are and aren't susceptible to media?

There is probably an effect in both cases (i.e. for violence and for perception of others), but the boogeyman-ism of blaming videogames is lazy, distasteful, and conservative. I'm glad to see it being put down. That said, there are a lot of armchair research psychologists around here who really should take a step back. Hint. And if you want to see glib, reply to this post with another cold take in which you provide absolutely no links and personally attack me, and I'll help you out.

THE LEEEFTTTTTTTTTTT
I blame the leftists' bottom of the barrel PC comedy that has replaced hard hitting satire

That might be worse than the satire comedy songs that all conservative talk radio hosts seem to love. :jeanluc

Colbert lost in the sauce :mjcry
You can call me crazy but I think Stephen Colbert was replaced by a body double when they ended the Colbert Report or the whole thing is deep faked.

if you've never got a death threat on the internet, you really need to take a look at yourself.

i mean i got one on here for calling out tom morello's indisputably limited guitar chops.

We're sure this isn't one of those supposedly doctored screengrabs?

This will go well.

It's probably a fake image judging by the fact they've been targeted already.

Given the recent attacks Ooblets has been under I wouldnt be shocked if these were faked (something very easy to do)

Would like to hear an official response before calling them out. But of course, if true that sucks

...aaaaaaaaaaaand anon locked, presumably by a mod who agrees:
Not the best moment for this topic, just close it and wait until things are calmed down before this.

because its bad optics to ban a bunch of people for suggesting that the ooblets devs might not be entirely blameless, might in some way be over reacting by calling unsolicited criticism harassment, that anyone with any criticism of their actions is anything less than a serial harrassing gamergater, or that directly contributing to a negative reaction through your own actions is not 'victim blaming'.

Even better!

This topic appears to have been discussed at length in an existing thread already and seems unlikely to generate good discussion on its own.

Good 'discussion' being apparently a thread where all you can do is emote sympathy for the developers and epic while ignoring how the situation developed in the first place. And bannings if you don't toe the line.

lol at that Kyuuji fight with the elderly dude still going in other threads: https://www.resetera.com/threads/8chan-has-been-shut-down.133074/post-23370771

Quote
Facebook is just as rotten man.
Quote
i wonder if THQ Nordic is just gonna continue ignore all this shit

they probably will
Quote
Is anyone in gaming media going to hold them accountable?
Quote
Reminder that Matthew Prince (Cloudflare CEO) is a major prick and would have preferred to host 8chan forever if he could.

These posts are frightening to me.
