That's my totally unsubstantiated first hunch too. "If you care so much open the checkbook". Forest fires are difficult to manage, even for wealthier countries and when they happen in less difficult environment. I could imagine Brazil doesn't have the means to even try to mitigate them properly.

At a superficial glance the Disney/Sony standoff strikes me as something that makes sense for both sides. Disney has the Fox properties to start integrating into the MCU so it doesn't really make as much sense for them to help Sony make a ton of money on standalone Spider-Man movies just to be able to use Spidey in the MCU. At the same time Spider-Man is a cash cow and it's not Sony's fault that Marvel made a shit deal back in the 90s. Venom sucked and made money anyway and Into the Spider-Verse proved they can make a commercially and critically successful Spider-Man movie without Kevin Feige. So here we are.

I guess Sony looks kind of bad just because of the leaked emails indicating that they were clueless about what to do with the franchise during the Andrew Garfield era and it seemed like they needed Marvel to rehab the property. But at the same time I don't really understand the sentiment that Disney/Marvel just care about making good art and Sony is holding them up or something. It's just a money thing where both parties have justifiable demands that are at odds with each other.
