This story, part of our regular coverage of the intersection of sex and games, originally included screenshots from several porn parodies with a note that they were Not Safe For Work. We’ve since removed those images. While the intent of this article was to provide a snapshot of the kind of gaming and geek porn that’s out there now, it’s clear in retrospect that, in terms of the images and the analysis you expect from us, we made a mistake. Readers are understandably uncomfortable about these kinds of depictions of characters who are often depicted as or thought of as teenagers. I am, too and apologize. So it seems you think this is a good editor note then, since you're an editor (not for this content) too.

Quote from: TheJason
There's a new one.

Quote
Well feel free to explain then.
You're an editor at Kotaku, there's an editor note at the bottom of the article (whether it's been written by a colleague or your boss), and you "leave it at that". If you've read that note and think there's nothing to add (not you personally, but if you think this is a good official excuse from Kotkau as a whole), I'm not sure what to think.

Quote from: ElJason
I don't think you're understanding me. There's a new editor's note that went up ten minutes ago. I'll leave it at that and refer you to our editor-in-chief if you have more questions or concerns.

Real talk, I think a lot of people, author included, are pretty detached about the stated age of fictional characters. Probably even more so if they grew up with those characters (and their "rule 34" counterparts), which the author may have (I'm not certain how old she is actually, younger than me certainly). It probably warrants some introspection, the article itself was not very good and it makes the graphic iconography -which she had in other articles in that series- a problem. She probably didn't think twice about it. Maybe she and the editor should have.

But, outside the Emma Watson likenesses, this kind of undermines the notion that fictional porn is a real problem to tackle given that most people at Kotaku are (presumably) not raging pedophiles and deviants. Also undermines Jason getting triggered by Dragons Crown art given that he seems okay with a coworker watching Zelda getting raped by goblins.

What the fuck. Editor needs to sort that shit out ASAP. Even though this is by far the worst they have done it’s not unusual for them, from recommending high questionable content to writers who are grown ass men referring to teenage characters as that wifey sounding word.

Completely undermines a lot of their writings. Gawker may be a digital equivalent of a tabloid but this sort of content is way past the line.

The whole fictional pornography and especially child pornography is a pretty thorny issue. I don't really have a definitive opinion about it. I think that there's some merit to what has been brought up to ERA on how those drawings are illegal in several major countries (including the UK where Kotaku has an affiliate and the author is from) and that for this alone the editor should have been more careful even if for legal liability.

ERA is coming down like a pack of bricks in that thread, mostly, so I don't think there's a lot of massive double standards but I agree there's a lot of squaring the circle issues with how hard they get in this.

Oh, I totally agree this is inappropriate for Kotaku to post even if there was not legal ramifications about it. The article itself is also trash even by standards of a site that had Brian Ashcraft in their staff. Is just funny to me how hard many of their current and former staff cares about how media depicts fictional characters in general  while this seems to pass under the radar. Is like when Gita Jackson bitchs about Hatsune Miku but she is a huge Love Live! Fangirl; they don’t even believe in the issues about most of the stuff they bitch about.

Beefy, who has a history of histories of attacking women "allegedly" is really failing quite spectacularly on how the law works.

Kotaku posting that shit and you seeing it will not get you put in Jail, you went to jail when you click save and looked for more.

Dude. God no. I heard Darkside and I heard the song they played during the halftime show last night. The album is the most cliche trendy sounding parody version of the band I thought I would never have to endure after their last poor effort.
I almost sent you a PM about this the other day after listening to it, but I liked the second half* of the album quite a bit. All the shoddy singles are in the first half then it gets more interesting*.

Also I realized that one problem is that half the songs are basically Alkaline Trio songs*, and while Matt can sing all the songs, Mark doesn't the range to sing the Trio type songs since he sings everything the same way anyway.

In any case, they should just scrap this all and do +44 albums.

Lol it's not really that shocking. There is a ton of this on reddit and all around internet. It's something that almost nobody (i presume) looks at as "child porn" ffs....
People watching this does not equal child rapists

This isnt CP.
Cartoons can't be cp.
This is honestly one of the less offensive Kotaku articles out there and people are freaking out over nothing.

I don't think this is actual CP under the law but I hope that little SJW infected trash website gets blacklisted from Era like they do every time there's a THQ thread lol.

We will see if those hypocrites DEMAND Jason's head and ban him from the forums.

oh no.
