Record store day 2020 - 18 April
« on: April 09, 2019, 09:31:06 PM »
Record store day is this Saturday 13 April.

Anyone planning on checking things out? What have you got your eye on from the special releases?

Not too much in the lists that I am excited about, but I have my eye on maybe the Office Space soundtrack, South Park soundtrack and Alien Weaponry - Tu.

My local record store has teamed up with the pub next door to put on some bands in the parking lot, so that should be fun.

I am not an expert and by no means am I an audiophile, so I have a pretty basic setup.

Marantz pm5005 amplifier
Audio Technica LP3 turntable
Q Acoustics 2020i bookshelf speakers

All up it probably cost me around AU$1000, but I waited until all the components were on sale before I bought.

You don't need to spend big money to get into it, but I would recommend going for something slightly above the entry level gear, just because I have read that cheap stuff can damage your records.

If you are looking for good advice, r/vinyl had some great FAQs and buyer's guides and r/turntables is also a good place to ask for advice.

Like all hobbies, it will always depend on your budget and expectations.

Record Store Day 2020 is on 18 April.

Anyone planning on spending far too much money on pieces of cardboard and black (or other coloured) plastic?

There is a reddit thread which has a few leaked lists etc
Imgur album of UK list from Long Live Vinyl magazine
If the leaks are correct, then I am interested in getting the following:

  • Dissection - The Somberlain
  • Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
  • The Teskey Brothers - Live at the Forum
  • Paradise Lost - Live at Rockpalast
  • Moonspell - Memorial
