I don't think MS showed anything bad. Every game they showed look pretty good. It's just nothing the showed does anything for thier platform solely. But I guess now thier platform is PC and Xbox anyway.  Yet, now I really feel there's no real identity too or reason to have an xbox. You can shit on Sony's "cinematic Uncharted clones", but at least when I think of Playstation I think of an actual brand that means something. MS just seems like whatever and this conference really did nothing to change that.

Tales looked good. Though now I guess it's more God Eater then simple anime fantasy. So it's now a bit more trashy, but at least it looks like it may be a slight change.

I mean it's cool, but Keanu Reeves isn't a great actor (beyond action roles, anyway), so aside from the meme value, it's not much.

I mean he was in Matrix and Johnny Mnemonic (the original badwestern cyberpunk film with Kitano as a cameo, GitS couldn't even get that right lol) so he's pretty topical too.

It's a small thing but the Arkane's game "grindhouse" intro and outro are kinda tired. I'm intrigued if the premise (unique rival enemy, branching paths ?) entails some specific gameplay loop though.

Broforce, Olli Olli (or just 2 IIRC), NOT A HERO, the Talos Principal (basically Portal under a different name and without Portals).

They're an indie developer that makes publishes some pretty fun (IMO) games. You probably wouldn't like most of their stuff if you're not into the punk/subversive nature of them.

i want to love this game but playing generic videogame badass self insert is dull as fuck, even if i can put an eyepatch on it.

someone else pointed it out but the whole heist gone wrong/friend gets gutshot/crime lord doublecross/revenge arc is the blandest hand the trailer could've played. the witcher was always at its best when it veered off the tropes and went into godlike bloody baron territory. i can't tell if the writers at CDPR are massively inconsistent or just accountable to the sort of people who stand on stage in a bomber jacket and bootcut jeans who demand they hit the generic AAA bullet points often enough, and are engaged in a constant power struggle between compelling writing and player fellating badassery.

Will be interesting if by the time neural network created speech synthesis matures sufficiently whether it may even be used for games. Rather than record all dialog with voice actors specifically for a part it could be trained on hundreds of hours of pre-existing voiced dialog. Could have something like voice licensing agreements with actors at presumably a much cheaper cost, adding variety to such RPGs.

Watched the MS conference, no interest in EA or Bethesda so I didn't bother with them. PSO2 finally getting an official release was probably my biggest surprise, and the Xenoblade-ish Tales is a must-play of course. Definitely gonna get Cyberpunk but will probably wait till the inevitable next gen remaster.

Here's hoping SE brings some exciting stuff. And the Switch dominating in Japan breaks open the floodgates to a lot of cool Japanese exclusives being announced tomorrow.

Even if it doesn't, the game is in 3 parts though, right? They have every opportunity to fuck this up, especially considering the 2nd part of the trilogy will fall slap bang into the next gen. They could just continue developing for the previous consoles at that point, but I can see them upgrading it for the next gen consoles. And as was the case before, maybe not getting to grips with the new hardware and it plummeting into development hell. lol
